flag mural appears in Glasgow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  It features the U.S President behind bars, with the prison door and railings made up by a black and white version of stars and stripes.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  When Mr Trump visited Scotland earlier this year it became a viral hit on social media, before the image of the President was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/news\/25362396.donald-trump-escapes-prison-viral-glasgow-mural\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">later removed by persons unknown<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>Read More:<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  On Friday a new mural by Mr Rawson, titled &#8216;Lamppost Patriotism&#8217;, appeared in Glasgow&#8217;s Broomielaw.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  With a drainpipe standing in for the base of a lamppost, a Union Flag rendered in black and white &#8216;flies&#8217; below the light.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  On the flag are the words &#8220;flag waving&#8221;, on the drainpipe &#8220;is a drain&#8221; and at the base are the words &#8220;on humanity&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>The artwork &#8216;Lamppost Patriotism&#8217; putting up a wall to communication even before a conversation starts.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  There has been significant controversy in recent weeks surrounding the proliferation of flags on lampposts.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In Scotland both the Union Flag and the Saltire have been installed on streets without permission from the local council.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Anti-asylum protests have often been accompanied by both, often as part of what is dubbed &#8216;Operation Raise the Colours&#8217;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  While displaying the Scottish or British flag cannot in itself be seen as a sign of racism or far-right sympathies, the campaign itself, which began in England, was co-founded and organised by Andrew Currien, a bodyguard for Britain First.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Prime Minister Sir <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/topics\/keir-starmer\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Keir Starmer<\/a> has said he is a &#8220;supporter of flags&#8221; but they can be &#8220;devalued if used for divisive purposes&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/topics\/first-minister\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">First Minister<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/news\/25072478.nicola-sturgeon-news-interviews-updates-former-fm\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nicola Sturgeon<\/a> said &#8220;I&#8217;ve never been that into flags&#8221;
