The report will come out at 8:30 a.m. ET on Oct. 24, nine days after it was originally scheduled, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/schedule\/news_release\/cpi.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to<\/a> the BLS.<\/p>\n<p>The department had originally paused work on the CPI report \u2013 which tracks a broad basket of goods and services for price changes over time \u2014 because of its shutdown plan, the official said. But the Social Security Administration needs third-quarter CPI data for calculating and publishing annual cost-of-living adjustments before Nov. 1.<\/p>\n<p>Other BLS data releases including the nonfarm payroll report <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/29\/bls-wont-be-releasing-data-including-fridays-key-jobs-report-in-case-of-a-shutdown.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">haven&#8217;t been<\/a> published as originally intended since the federal government shutdown due to a lapse in funding. The Senate on Thursday failed to pass <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/10\/09\/government-shutdown-senate-vote-bills.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">funding bills<\/a> for the seventh time that would have ended the closure, which began last week.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-10-09\/bls-recalls-staff-to-ready-september-cpi-report-by-month-s-end?taid=68e82da4399eb60001a973cc&amp;utm_campaign=trueanthem&amp;utm_content=business&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first reported<\/a> that the BLS was calling employees back to work on the CPI data.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CNBC&#8217;s Steve Liesman contributed to this report.<\/p>\n<p>Correction: The Social Security Administration needs third-quarter CPI data for calculating and publishing annual cost-of-living adjustments before Nov. 1.
