The counter-programming culture wars have begun. Charlie Kirk\u2019s Turning Point USA has announced that it\u2019s planning its own Super Bowl halftime show, in protest of the NFL\u2019s decision to have Latin music superstar Bad Bunny<\/strong> headline the main event. The so-called All American Halftime Show will take place on February 8, 2026, the same date as Super Bowl LX.<\/p>\n

Conservatives were up in arms<\/a> after it was announced that Bad Bunny\u2014one of the biggest artists in the world with more than 80 million Spotify listeners each month, as well as an American citizen from Puerto Rico\u2014would be headlining the Super Bowl halftime show. While appearing on right-wing influencer Benny Johnson<\/strong>\u2019s podcast, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem<\/strong><\/a> threatened<\/a> that ICE would be \u201call over that place\u201d at the Super Bowl, which is will be held at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, and maintained that she has every intention to \u201cenforce the law.\u201d House Speaker Mike Johnson<\/strong> called booking Bad Bunny \u201ca terrible decision<\/a>\u201d and offered an alternative: 82-year-old country singer Lee Greenwood,<\/strong> whom he said would attract a \u201cbroader audience.\u201d (For the record: the \u201cGod Bless the USA\u201d singer has less than 450,000 monthly Spoty listeners, roughly 190 times less than Bad Bunny). Even President Donald Trump<\/strong> called Bad Bunny an \u201cabsolutely ridiculous<\/a>\u201d\u00a0choice to headline the Super Bowl, despite claiming he had \u201cnever heard of him.\u201d<\/p>\n

As of now, it\u2019s unclear where the All-American Halftime Show will take place or air. On social media<\/a>, Turning Point USA said, \u201cperformers and event details coming soon.\u201d On a website<\/a> for the event, there\u2019s a survey that asks the public, \u201cWhat music genres would you like to see featured?\u201d Various options include: \u201cAmericana,\u201d \u201cWorship,\u201d and \u201cAnything in English\u201d\u2014seemingly a dig at Bad Bunny, who mostly performs in his native Spanish.<\/p>\n

Although Puerto Rico is, again, an American territory, Turning Point USA has decided that Bad Bunny is not American enough to headline the Super Bowl. So, who might they book to compete with the biggest televised music event of the year? Perhaps they\u2019ll reach out to Carrie Underwood,<\/strong> the American Idol winner turned country music star who made the controversial decision to sing at Trump\u2019s inauguration in January<\/a>. But while her politics may (or may not) align with those of Turning Point USA, Underwood might be reticent to take a stand against the NFL. After all, she famously sings the \u201cSunday Night Football<\/a>\u201d opening song. Counter-programming football\u2019s biggest night would probably jeopardize her bag.<\/p>\n

A few weeks ago, Turning Point USA would probably also love if a country rock phenom like Zach Bryan<\/strong> headlined the event. Bryan is one of the biggest names in country music at the moment, recently breaking the record<\/a> for largest ticketed concert ever held in the US with over 112,408 fans attending his concert at Michigan Stadium on September 27, 2025. But he might be a tough sell as well. Earlier this week, Bryan teased the lyrics to his upcoming song \u201cBad News<\/a>,\u201d which seemingly criticizes ICE. \u201cI heard the cops came \/ Cocky motherf\u2013kers, ain\u2019t they? \/And ICE is gonna come bust down your door,\u201d he sings in the song, as teased on Instagram. Conservative politicians like Noem took Bryan to task for the song, calling it \u201ccompletely disrespectful,\u201d<\/a> while Bryan wrote on his Instagram story that he is \u201con neither of these radical sides\u201d and that the song is about \u201cis about how much I love this country and everyone in it more than anything.\u201d While he may be suggesting on social media that he’s apolitical, Bryan’s new song is probably not conservative enough for Turning Point USA to book him as a headliner<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The counter-programming culture wars have begun.
