As autumn settles in and the dark nights arrive, BBC iPlayer<\/a> is offering viewers the perfect comfort watch – a touching new drama that’s already earning rave reviews.<\/p>\n

The six-part series<\/a>, Film Club, stars Sex Education and The White Lotus actress Aimee Lou Wood<\/a>, alongside Suranne Jones, known for her roles in Hostage and Doctor Foster and Emmy Award Winner Owen Cooper<\/a>, from Netflix’s Adolescence. The show has the perfect blend of humour and heartache exploring friendship, fear and the power of connection through the lens of its eccentric lead character.<\/p>\n

Aimee, 31, plays Evie an agoraphobic young woman who struggles with her mental health and is unable to leave her mum’s home in Manchester. To cope with her isolate and fear, she runs a weekly film club from her mum’s garage, the Express<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

One of the central relationships in the series is between Evie and her old university friend Noa, played by Nabhaan Rizwan. Their friendship takes a complicated turn when Noa reveals he might be forced to move to Bristol for his dream job.<\/p>\n

Both Noa and Evie secretly have feeling for one another but are too afraid to admit it – setting up a will they\/won’t they dilemma that has captivated audiences.<\/p>\n

Viewers have been quick to praise the series online for its warmth, acting and story line. One fan took to IMDb writing their own review, which read: “Just watched all episodes on iPlayer. The writing had so many levels with some pretty tricky subject matter, but handled them with care and humour.”<\/p>\n

While another viewer echoed the statement, writing: “Aimee Lou Wood is as brilliant as ever. Nabhaan Rizwan was perfect casting \u2013 an impressive feat to play a character that is rather intentionally flat, a ‘man of few words.'”<\/p>\n

A third stated: “Suranne Jones plays a brilliant embarrassing, funny and self-consciously overbearing mum, whose bond with her daughters is painfully heartwarming. It was, of course, an exciting prospect to see Owen Cooper post-adolescence \u2013 he smashed it.”<\/p>\n

Taking to X, formally known as Twitter, one viewer expressed: “I absolutely adore #FilmClub on #bbciplayer it\u2019s so lovely and the cast are just delightful together but the 3 girls Aimee Lou Wood, Liv Hill and Suranne Jones are just brilliant, I just binge watched it all, hope there\u2019s more.”<\/p>\n

In addition to staring in the show, Aimee also co-wrote the drama, drawing inspiration from one of Matt Haig’s best selling books. Speaking to British Comedy Guide<\/a>, she explained: “He says something along the lines of, \u201cwhen you lose the plot, you need a plot\u201d; I feel like you can understand your own story and your own life more through characters.”<\/p>\n
