{"id":490239,"date":"2025-10-11T05:48:19","date_gmt":"2025-10-11T05:48:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/490239\/"},"modified":"2025-10-11T05:48:19","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T05:48:19","slug":"women-risking-breast-cancer-by-always-putting-ourselves-last-says-liz-hurley-uk-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/490239\/","title":{"rendered":"Women risking breast cancer by &#8216;always putting ourselves last&#8217;, says Liz Hurley | UK News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Liz Hurley has encouraged women to check themselves for breast cancer &#8211; and warned some are not because they &#8220;are scared that it&#8217;s self-indulgent to spend time on themselves&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/liz-hurley-7760\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The British actress and model<\/strong><\/a>, who has been a global ambassador for the Estee Lauder Companies&#8217; Breast <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/cancer-8503\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cancer<\/a> <\/strong> Campaign for 30 years, told Sky News&#8217; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/author\/jacquie-beltrao-986\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jacquie Beltrao<\/a><\/strong> the demands of everyday life mean women &#8220;always put ourselves last&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re doing stuff for kids, for husbands, for mothers, for in-laws. There&#8217;s so much that we have to do that we tend to come last,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Hurley, whose grandmother died of breast cancer, said she finds it helps by thinking of breast checks as a way to &#8220;keep ourselves healthy in order to continue to take care of everybody else&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>That way, it &#8220;doesn&#8217;t seem self-indulgent or taking time away from something else, it seems really important&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Checking one&#8217;s breasts &#8220;takes two minutes&#8221;, she added, or &#8220;about the same length of time as brushing your teeth&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>          <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"sdc-article-image__item\" loading=\"lazy\" intrinsicsize=\"768x432\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/skynews-liz-hurley-breast-cancer_7047945.png\"   alt=\"Hurley speaking to Sky's Jacquie Beltrao\" data-testid=\"article-image-image\"\/><\/p>\n<p>        Image:<br \/>\n        Hurley speaking to Sky&#8217;s Jacquie Beltrao<\/p>\n<p>More than a third of women in the UK do not take up the first mammogram appointment they are offered, and a recent study of 500,000 women from Sweden found a similar non-attendance rate there.<\/p>\n<p>More than 11,000 people die from breast cancer every year in the UK, or 31 each day, Cancer Research UK said.<\/p>\n<p>That makes it the second most common form of cancer death, accounting for 7% of all cancer deaths, the charity said.<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether some of the messaging had &#8220;fallen on deaf ears&#8221;, Hurley said attending screenings, which are free on the NHS, is &#8220;definitely advised&#8221;, and she suggested all women should familiarise themselves with their breasts.<\/p>\n<p>     <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/download-app\" target=\"blank\" data-tracking-label=\"ui-app-promo-download-link\" class=\"ui-app-promo sdc-article-widget\" data-type=\"\" data-component-name=\"ui-app-promo\" data-testid=\"app-promo\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>    <\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the past, the illness was seen as &#8220;a disease for older ladies. And we didn&#8217;t understand that younger women also get diagnosed. That&#8217;s been a lot in the news lately&#8221;, Hurley said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There appear to be more women, younger women being diagnosed.
