{"id":490360,"date":"2025-10-11T06:52:29","date_gmt":"2025-10-11T06:52:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/490360\/"},"modified":"2025-10-11T06:52:29","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T06:52:29","slug":"mclaren-boss-denies-destroying-evidence-in-15-4m-case-against-driver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/490360\/","title":{"rendered":"McLaren boss denies destroying evidence in \u00a315.4m case against driver"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">The McLaren team principal, Zak Brown, has been accused of destroying evidence in a case involving IndyCar champion \u00c1lex Palou, who reneged on his agreement to drive for the team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Brown was cross-examined in the High Court by Palou\u2019s KC Nick de Marco this week, who confronted him with a series of WhatsApp messages the defendant submitted just before the hearing \u2014 including one where the McLaren chief tells others to delete messages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Palou, 28, agreed in October 2022 to drive for McLaren from 2024, but in August 2023 he announced that he would not fulfil the agreement. You have deliberately turned on disappearing messages after you have been told not to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Brown replied: \u201cI was not destroying evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">The court was also shown the former McLaren IndyCar team manager, Gavin Ward, telling a journalist after his job was terminated that \u201cturning off McLaren\u2019s mandated seven\u2212day disappearing messages setting feels truly liberating\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Asked why the function was used, Ward replied: \u201cYep . . . to cover their ass on lawsuits. Talk about a red flag.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Brown responded in court saying: \u201cThis has nothing to do with me.
