{"id":490617,"date":"2025-10-11T09:18:21","date_gmt":"2025-10-11T09:18:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/490617\/"},"modified":"2025-10-11T09:18:21","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T09:18:21","slug":"glasgow-man-says-missed-collections-have-made-bin-area-health-hazard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/490617\/","title":{"rendered":"Glasgow man says missed collections have made bin area &#8216;health hazard&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Rehman Ghafoor, who owns family-run business Smokin Ideas on Gallowgate, says there have been issues with bin collections at the building since summer last year.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The family also own five properties located above the shop, one of which operates as an Airbnb, in the building which has a mural of Billy Connolly on the side called \u2018The Big Yin\u2019. \u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ NEXT:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/news\/25533623.specialist-taskforce-helped-make-65-arrests-six-months\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Specialist taskforce helped make 65 arrests in six months<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>Rehman Ghafoor(Image: GordonTerris\/Herald&amp;Times)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Rehman told the Glasgow Times: \u201cThere\u2019s been problems since June last year where the bin men have been coming and not taking the mess away.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWe\u2019ve got issues with the green and blue bins.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI\u2019ve been onto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/news\/25158943.glasgow-city-council-news-interviews-updates\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glasgow City Council<\/a>, I&#8217;ve phoned and emailed, they come, then they don&#8217;t come and it just goes back to normal.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThe bins are overflowing, the cardboard has been blown about, and it&#8217;s blocked the gutters,\u00a0there&#8217;s mice and rats, I\u2019ve seen cockroaches and it smells horrible.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cIt\u2019s a health hazard.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>(Image: GordonTerris\/Herald&amp;Times)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Rehman says he has contacted the council several times since June last year but feels it has made no difference. \u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The 33-year-old said: \u201cI\u2019ve phoned so many times, I\u2019ve complained to them, I\u2019ve talked nicely, I\u2019ve talked more aggressively, and then I even had someone from Glasgow City Council says she\u2019ll come out but its\u2019 been two weeks and she\u2019s not bothered.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cIt\u2019s been going on for too long.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThe bins are a joke, they can\u2019t be a***d.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI\u2019ve never experienced anything like this before, and we\u2019ve had those properties for ages.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThe green bins are supposed to come every week or six days, but they\u2019ve not took the green bins for about two weeks so now they\u2019re overflowing.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ NEXT:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/news\/25533812.rangers-fans-condemn-senseless-attack-walter-smith-statue\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rangers and fans condemn &#8216;senseless attack&#8217; on Walter Smith statue<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>(Image: GordonTerris\/Herald&amp;Times)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A spokesperson for the council says the issue was due to having the incorrect code for the close door after it was recently changed, however Rehman says he had given the council the code as well as his phone number to get in touch if there were issues. \u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The council says the service will be fully restored. \u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Rehman, whose family clean the close and maintain the buillding, says the issue has been made worse by the fact there are not enough blue bins for the number of flats, and that on occasion they have been left due to becomimg contaminated with other waste. \u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He explained: \u201cThere\u2019s only three blue bins when there should be six because there are nine flats.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThere used to be six, but they took three away.
