giant has warned (Picture: Shutterstock)<\/p>\n<p>A warning has been issued for anyone using <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/microsoft\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft<\/a> products to update their apps as soon as possible before a major software change.<\/p>\n<p>The tech giant will no longer be able to provide security or bug fixes for its older software, which could leave users at risk of security threats, Microsoft warned.<\/p>\n<p>Support for Microsoft Office 2016 and Office 2019 will not receive updates from Tuesday, meaning technical support for these older apps won\u2019t be available.<\/p>\n<p>Apps which fall under the Office umbrella include Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.<\/p>\n<p>Opting to stick to the older version could put you at risk of facing security threats to your devices, according to Jeremy Carlson, director of product marketing for Microsoft 365.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/SEI_269839577-c658.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-24399222\" 2016 and 2019 will no longer receive support from October 14<br \/>\n(Picture: Shutterstock)<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Continuing to use software after end of support can leave your devices vulnerable to potential security threats, productivity losses, and compliance issues,\u2019 he said in a Microsoft community forum.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018After that date, Microsoft will no longer provide security fixes, bug fixes, or technical support for these products.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He added that any app upgrades should happen sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Now is the time to move all remaining devices running Office 2016 or Office 2019 to a supported version,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>The main apps impacted by this change include Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, and Skype for Business.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/10\/09\/microsoft-glitch-leaves-users-unable-to-use-teams-24380746\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/10\/09\/microsoft-glitch-leaves-users-unable-to-use-teams-24380746\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft 365 users were unable to access Teams<\/a>, which prompted the tech company to launch an investigation into the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft\u2019s health service warned that Microsoft 365 (Business or Enterprise) was facing \u2018service
