Two brothers have been jailed after raping <\/a>and getting their 12-year-old victim pregnant in a shocking case of abuse.<\/p>\n

One of the brothers, Patrick Leonard, 23, accepted he had raped the girl at a time when he knew he was HIV positive, but thankfully she did not contract the disease.<\/p>\n

The victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, became pregnant as a result of Leonard\u2019s abuse. Bradford Crown Court<\/a> heard that she later gave birth to a child which was proven to be his by DNA tests, reports Yorkshire Live.<\/p>\n

The girl was also raped by Leonard\u2019s younger brother Lannee Ksigwa who was 17 at the time.<\/p>\n

A recording of the girl’s victim impact statement was played in court by prosecutor Chloe Hudson. In it the girl described how the abuse had left her broken and \u201ctraumatised\u201d. She said the brothers had taken away her innocence and they should be ashamed of themselves.<\/p>\n

Leonard admitted two rape offences ahead of his trial but was then found guilty of further rape charges by the jury. He was jailed for 24 years with an extended licence period of one year as \u201can offender of particular concern\u201d.<\/p>\n

Judge Andrew Hatton said Leonard\u2019s offending involved grooming behaviour and the fact he knew he was HIV positive made his actions \u201cremarkably reckless\u201d.<\/p>\n

“You also acknowledge that you were forceful, controlling and sometimes violent towards her when raping her,” said Judge Hatton.<\/p>\n

Ksigwa, now 19, was found guilty of two rape offences by the jury and he was sentenced to 12 years detention in a young offenders institution.<\/p>\n

Judge Hatton said the brothers were equally responsible for the severe psychological and physical harm suffered by the victim. Both defendants will have to serve at least two-thirds of their sentences, but Leonard will only be released after 16 years if the Parole Board decides it is safe to do so.<\/p>\n

The brothers, both of Grosvenor Terrace, Bradford, will also have to register as sex offenders for the rest of their lives and the judge also imposed an indefinite restraining order which bans them from contacting the victim and others involved in the case.<\/p>\n

Detective Inspector Simon Howroyd of Bradford District\u2019s Child Safeguarding Unit<\/a> said: “These brothers are dangerous sexual predators, who have destroyed a young girl’s life. They took advantage of her for their own sexual gratification, and both deserve to be behind bars for a long time.<\/p>\n

“I would like to praise the bravery of the victim in this case for navigating the complex judicial system, and I hope the sentences go some way in finding justice.
