Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard<\/a> has withdrawn from the running to return to Rangers following the dismissal of Russell Martin. The 45-year-old had been the frontrunner to become the Scottish giants’ new manager.<\/p>\n Martin was axed earlier this week after a disappointing start to the campaign. Gerrard, by contrast, achieved remarkable success during his initial tenure with the club, breaking their decade-long drought for a Scottish top-flight championship.<\/p>\n However, Sky Sports<\/a> have now confirmed that Gerrard has withdrawn himself from the process to become Martin’s replacement. Gerrard steered Rangers to the Scottish Premiership crown in 2021, delivering a stunning undefeated league season that campaign.<\/p>\n Earlier this week, Gerrard acknowledged he believed there was ‘unfinished business’ in his managerial journey.<\/p>\n “There’s a part of me that still feels that there’s a bit of unfinished business in terms of wanting to go in and face another couple of exciting challenges,” he said on the ‘Rio Meets’ podcast.<\/p>\n “But I want a certain type of challenge.
