data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">US-China trade tensions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Mayor Gong Zheng said on Sunday that deepened reforms had been carried out to grant overseas companies in the fields of electric vehicles, value-added telecommunications services, biotechnology and hospitals full access to the Chinese market.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cWe are taking an orderly pace in further implementing institutional reforms in opening up the market,\u201d he said at a press conference after the annual International Business Leaders\u2019 Advisory Council meeting. \u201cWe understand that openness is the biggest advantage that Shanghai enjoys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mayor did not directly respond to a question about the impact from escalating US-China trade tensions following US President Donald Trump\u2019s <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/diplomacy\/article\/3328601\/trump-threatens-cancel-meeting-xi-amid-rare-earth-trade-clash?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">latest threat<\/a> of additional 100 per cent tariffs on Chinese goods over the weekend.Admitting that <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/amp.scmp.com\/topics\/foreign-direct-investment\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\">foreign direct investment<\/a> in the mainland\u2019s most developed metropolis dropped recently, Gong said that multinational firms had opened more research and development centres, as well as regional headquarters, in Shanghai as they remained confident in China\u2019s consumer vigour.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">He also said that Shanghai municipality would ensure that foreign-funded manufacturers would be treated equally in government purchases.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cThey will also receive our support when they participate in building supply chains, whether upstream or downstream,\u201d he
