\n\tWhile many of her peers boycott the Harry Potter<\/a> universe, Keira Knightley<\/a> appears to have avoided the fiery discourse around the franchise.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter Deadline reported last month that Knightley will voice Professor Umbridge<\/a> in Pottermore Publishing and Audible<\/a>\u2018s Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions<\/a>, the 2x Oscar nominee pleaded ignorance around the backlash sparked by author J.K. Rowling<\/a>\u2018s anti-trans<\/a> views.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was not aware of that, no. I\u2019m very sorry,\u201d Knightley told Decider<\/a> of the boycott. \u201cYou know, I think we\u2019re all living in a period of time right now where we\u2019re all going to have to figure out how to live together, aren\u2019t we? And we\u2019ve all got very different opinions. I hope that we can all find respect.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter Rowling previously celebrated UK\u2019s Supreme Court ruling<\/a> that prohibits trans women from being legally recognized as women, more than 400 people signed a letter<\/a> urging the country\u2019s film and television industry to take action on trans rights. One such signatory was Paapa Essiedu<\/a>, who has been cast in HBO Max\u2019s Harry Potter series<\/a> as Professor Snape.<\/p>\n

\n\tRowling has said she \u201cworked closely<\/a>\u201d with the show\u2019s writers\u2019 room, and Deadline previously reported she was part of the pitch process<\/a> for the Warner Bros. Television series, which she will produce through her Bront\u00eb Film and TV banner.<\/p>\n

\n\tHBO Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys confirmed at the time that Rowling \u201cwill be involved. She\u2019s an executive producer on the show. Her insights are going to be helpful on that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tExplaining that the controversy around Rowling\u2019s anti-trans statements is \u201cvery nuanced and complicated,\u201d Bloys added: \u201cOur priority is what\u2019s on the screen. Obviously, the Harry Potter story is incredibly affirmative and positive and about love and self-acceptance.
