Friday\u2019s slate of matches could not have gone better for Germany. Germany scored early and often to overwhelm Luxembourg in a 4-0 win. Northern Ireland gutted out a 2-0 win over Slovakia. Germany will head into the second half of World Cup qualifying in a three-way tie for first place in Group A. As it currently stands, Germany would hold the tiebreaker thanks to a plus-four goal differential advantage.<\/p>\n

Historically, Germany holds a significant advantage (14W-4D-2L) over Northern Ireland, including last month\u2019s 3-1 win in World Cup qualifying. Dating back to 1996, Northern Ireland has failed to beat Germany in the last 10 matchups.<\/p>\n

Northern Ireland\u2019s World Cup qualifying campaign has gone incredibly well, earning wins over Slovakia and Luxembourg. Northern Ireland will be counting on the home crowd to give them the necessary push to take a point or three from the German visitors.<\/p>\n

If Julian Nagelsmann changes anything from the Luxembourg starting lineup, he might have an uprising on his hands. The three-man defense was effective in last month\u2019s win over Northern Ireland but that was the byproduct of the available personnel rather than the best version of Germany\u2019s current squad.<\/p>\n

Joshua Kimmich is a solid central midfielder but is arguably the most effective right-back in the world. Aleksandar Pavlovi\u0107, Leon Goretzka, and Serge Gnabry have been fantastic this season. Throw in Jonathan Tah\u2019s consistent form and Bayern Munich is back to dominating Germany\u2019s roster.<\/p>\n

Northern Ireland operates reliably on a 3-5-2 formation that concedes large amounts of possession but is efficient in scoring situations. It will be interesting to see if Northern Ireland stays in its shell and plays for a tight margin or goes for the big upset.<\/p>\n

Germany was in need of a good performance and Luxembourg was the right squad for the moment.<\/p>\n

The team spirit appeared to be much higher than the last international where the German were flat and the renewed energy helped power the team to a 4-0 victory. An early red card played a massive role in the outcome, but Germany likely would have rolled easily even without being a man-up for three quarters of the match.<\/p>\n
