This month marks a year since Erik ten Hag was sacked as Manchester United boss. Next month will see Ruben Amorim bring up his first anniversary in charge at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n
It will provide inevitable comparisons between the pair as United seek to re-establish themselves as a European contender in the Premier League.<\/p>\n
Ten Hag departed after a defeat at West Ham on October 28, with Amorim installed a few weeks later.<\/p>\n
The Portuguese head coach endured a difficult debut campaign with United’s dismal domestic form meaning they finished 15th in the Premier League and hopes of Europa League glory and a return to the Champions League were dashed by a defeat to Tottenham in the final.<\/p>\n
Amorim has spent big in the summer to try and reinvent United’s attack and while there have been some promising signs, the Reds are still struggling for consistency.<\/p>\n
It’s an incredible quirk of Amorim’s tenure that he has yet to oversee successive league victories.<\/p>\n
He has a chance to end that unwanted statistic at Anfield when United resume their campaign following the October international break.<\/p>\n
Doing so against the champions in their own back yard would be a statement showing by United, even if the task seems a daunting one despite Arne Slot’s side having lost their last three games in all competitions.<\/p>\n
Ten Hag’s tenure may have tailed off terribly but the Dutchman did beat Liverpool in just his third game in charge, albeit at Old Trafford, with a 2-1 victory coming off the back of a dismal 4-0 defeat to Brentford. That win over Jurgen Klopp’s side was immediately followed by a domestic victory at Southampton, as ten Hag collected back to back Premier League wins inside four matches.<\/p>\n
Amorim, who saw his side draw 2-2 at Liverpool last season, could secure a double of a win over the Merseysiders and ending the lengthy wait for those elusive back to back Premier League victories in one fell swoop on Sunday.<\/p>\n
If he does, it might just have been worth the wait.<\/p>\n
