The council\u2019s housing development arm Goram Homes announced it had finally struck a deal with housebuilder The Hill Group today (Octr 13) with work beginning on the same day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">The \u2018joint venture\u2019 deal will formalise the ownership of the land and the homes once they\u2019ve been built, and be a partnership between Goram Homes, The Hill Group and Sovereign Housing Association. SNG will use Government grants to buy 66 of the 166 flats, after <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bristol-city-council\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol City Council<\/a> controversially announced last year it would no longer be funding the affordable homes part of the development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">The Homes England funding will mean SNG can offer 50 of the flats for social rent to people on Bristol\u2019s HomeChoice housing waiting list scheme, with another 16 being available for shared ownership. The 40 per cent meets the council\u2019s affordable housing policy, and is a good deal for the city, the man in charge of Bristol\u2019s housing policy said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">\u201cThis is a pivotal moment for Baltic Wharf,\u201d said Cllr Barry Parsons, the chair of the homes and housing policy committee. \u201cWith Goram Homes and The Hill Group\u2019s partnership formalised, we can look forward to dozens more homes for those households with the greatest need of housing, in the heart of the city. For the past month or so, leaders of that campaign have been asking The Hill Group, Goram Homes and local councillors if they could have one last visit to the site to \u2018say goodbye\u2019 to their tree partners, but have been refused. One councillor said they would not be allowed on for health and safety reasons &#8211; after the work began.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">\u201cShame on you all,\u201d <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/tree-bride-says-marriage-tree-9615429\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"campaign leader Anita BennettLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">campaign leader Anita Bennett<\/a> said in an email today to the council, The Hill Group and Goram Homes. \u201cYour lives and the lives of everyone in Bristol will be that much worse for your unimaginative decisions. Our focus is now on creating these high-quality, energy-efficient homes.
