{"id":4973,"date":"2025-04-08T10:49:15","date_gmt":"2025-04-08T10:49:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/4973\/"},"modified":"2025-04-08T10:49:15","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T10:49:15","slug":"state-pensioners-get-176-benefit-from-monday-personal-finance-finance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/4973\/","title":{"rendered":"State pensioners get \u00a3176 benefit from Monday | Personal Finance | Finance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>State pensioners across the UK can get a \u00a3176 per week benefit from Monday, April 7, as new payment rates take effect.<\/p>\n<p><a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> rates increase at the start of every <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/finance\/personalfinance\/2037269\/7-money-changes-April-6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new tax year on April 6<\/a> and the amount it goes up is based on three factors, known as <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/triple-lock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the \u2018triple lock\u2019<\/a>. These factors include the consumer price index (CPI) measure of <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/inflation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inflation<\/a> (measured for September in the previous year), average wage growth between May and July of the previous year, or 2.5%. Whichever is the highest out of these three factors determines pension rates for the new tax year.<\/p>\n<p data-mce-linkchecker-status=\"valid\">For the new 2025\/26 tax year, which began on April 6, both the basic and new State Pensions have been uprated by 4.1% in line with the annual increase in the average weekly earnings index for May to July 2024.<\/p>\n<p>As the UK\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> system is split into two different schemes &#8211; basic and new &#8211; the amount extra you\u2019ll get in pension payments from this month depends on when you retired.<\/p>\n<p>For those who get the basic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a>, the full weekly payment rate has increased by 4.1% to \u00a3176.45 per week &#8211; up from \u00a3169.50 in 2024\/25.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Department for Work and Pensions (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/dwp\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DWP<\/a>), this weekly payment rise is worth an additional \u00a3360 a year, if you get the full rate. Those who do get the full rate will get \u00a39,175.40 over the course of a year &#8211; \u00a32,797.60 less annually than those who get the full new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/dwp\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DWP<\/a> said: \u201cThose in receipt of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> and other uprated benefits will see an increase in their next payments following Monday 7 April.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith uprating in effect, pensioners receiving the full basic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> will see their weekly payments rise from \u00a3169.50 to \u00a3176.45 per week, worth an additional \u00a3360 a year. In addition, the full rate of the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> will increase from \u00a3221.20 to \u00a3230.25 per week, an increase of \u00a3470 a year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Men born before April 6, 1951, and women born before April 6, 1953, are eligible to claim the basic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a>. Anyone born on or after these dates will claim the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> instead.<\/p>\n<p>According to UK Parliament, an estimated 8.57 million pensioners were claiming the basic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> in the 2024\/25 tax year, while only 4.38 million were new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> claimants.<\/p>\n<p>How much basic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> you get depends on your National Insurance record.
