{"id":497412,"date":"2025-10-14T00:09:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T00:09:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/497412\/"},"modified":"2025-10-14T00:09:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T00:09:16","slug":"uks-leading-bosses-urged-to-act-on-protecting-against-cyber-attacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/497412\/","title":{"rendered":"UK\u2019s leading bosses urged to act on protecting against cyber attacks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Bosses of the UK\u2019s leading companies have been urged to take action to protect themselves from cyber attacks as the number of major incidents hit a record level.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Technology Secretary Liz Kendall called on chief executives to take \u201cimmediate action\u201d following incidents hitting household names including Marks and Spencer, Co-op and Jaguar Land Rover.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) \u2013 part of GCHQ \u2013 dealt with 204 \u201cnationally significant\u201d attacks in the 12 months to the end of August 2025, up from 89 in the previous year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">The Government has now written to chief executives and chairs of leading businesses \u2013 including all FTSE350 companies \u2013\u00a0 highlighting the importance of government and bosses working together to protect the UK economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">The letters, signed by Ms Kendall, Chancellor Rachel Reeves, Business Secretary Peter Kyle, security minister Dan Jarvis and the heads of the NCSC and National Crime Agency, calls on bosses to take \u201cconcrete actions\u201d to manage cyber risks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Ms Kendall said: \u201cWe\u2019ve seen first hand the disruption caused by cyber attacks on major British companies, hitting their bottom line and putting jobs at risk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">\u201cThe Government stands ready to help, but cyber security is an issue that demands leadership both from chief executives and right across the boardroom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/ywAAAAAAQABAAACAUwAOw==\" alt=\"NCSC chief executive Richard Horne\" loading=\"eager\" height=\"427\" width=\"640\" class=\"yf-1gfnohs loader\"\/> NCSC chief executive Richard Horne (Ryan Jenkinson\/PA)      <\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">NCSC chief executive Richard Horne said: \u201cCyber security is now a matter of business survival and national resilience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">\u201cWith over half the incidents handled by the NCSC deemed to be nationally significant, and a 50% rise in highly significant attacks on last year, our collective exposure to serious impacts is growing at an alarming pace.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">\u201cThe best way to defend against these attacks is for organisations to make themselves as hard a target as possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">\u201cThat demands urgency from every business leader: hesitation is a vulnerability, and the future of their business depends on the action they take today.
