{"id":498377,"date":"2025-10-14T08:53:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T08:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/498377\/"},"modified":"2025-10-14T08:53:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T08:53:09","slug":"russia-charges-khodorkovsky-other-exiled-dissidents-with-terrorism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/498377\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia Charges Khodorkovsky, Other Exiled Dissidents With \u2018Terrorism\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Russia\u2019s Federal Security Service (FSB) on Tuesday<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fsb.ru\/fsb\/press\/message\/single.htm%21id%3D10440428%40fsbMessage.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> announced<\/a> criminal charges against prominent exiled anti-war figures, including former oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky, accusing them of forming a \u201cterrorist\u201d group and plotting to overthrow the Russian government.<\/p>\n<p>The charges target members of the Russian Anti-War Committee, an organization founded abroad in February 2022 after Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Besides Khordokovsky, its members include Kremlin critic Vladimir Kara-Murza, political commentator Yekatrina Schulmann, chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov and philanthropist Boris Zimin.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities in Moscow accused Khodorkovsky and the Anti-War Committee\u2019s co-founders of financing \u201cterrorist Ukrainian paramilitary nationalist units\u201d and recruiting members to \u201cfurther their goal of forcibly overthrowing Russia\u2019s leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FSB said that the Anti-War Committee had called for the\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/antiwarcommittee.info\/en\/berlin-declaration-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">liquidation<\/a>\u201d of the Russian government. It also said the organization helped\u00a0create a \u201cPlatform of Russian Democratic Forces\u201d at the Council of Europe, which Khodorkovsky has described as a \u201ctransitional assembly\u201d and alternative government.<\/p>\n<p>Khodorkovsky <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mich261213\/status\/1978000622734528865\" title=\"denied\">denied<\/a> that the Anti-War Committee finances Ukraine\u2019s military or seeks to seize power in Russia. \u201cThe Kremlin sees the PACE story as a big problem,\u201d he wrote on X, referring to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian Prosecutor General\u2019s Office designated the Anti-War Committee an \u201cundesirable organization\u201d in January 2024, and many of its members have been labeled as \u201cforeign agents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1677\" data-end=\"1828\">The FSB said it was carrying out \u201cinvestigative actions\u201d but did not provide further details.
