A Kibble worker has told of the impact her role can have on young people in care \u2014 and how the profession can make a positive difference.<\/p>\n
Niamh Stobie is a child and youth care worker at Paisley-based <\/a>charity Kibble and looks at the role as not only a career, but a lifestyle choice.<\/p>\n The 29-year-old sees herself providing time and energy to better the lives of young people in care as a positive duty that will allow those within the care system to grow up and be successful.<\/p>\n Every day, Niamh has first-hand experience of, and influence on, the positive impact consistent, caring adults can have on the lives of children and young people.<\/p>\n It is a job Niamh has always wanted to do from a young age \u2014 with a passion for fairness and standing up for others shining through in her character.<\/p>\n She told the Paisley Daily Express:<\/a> \u201cMy stepdad said to me recently, \u2018I can still remember you standing in front of me as a little girl, saying you just wanted to help people\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s always stayed with me. I\u2019ve always been passionate about people\u2019s rights; that\u2019s why this role feels right to me.<\/p>\n \u201cFor me, this role is about being that steady person in a young person\u2019s life \u2014 someone who shows up every day, listens and really believes in them.<\/p>\n \u201cThe young people in our care deserve the absolute best, and at Kibble we make it our priority to provide that.<\/p>\n \u201cMany of the young people have lived through significant trauma, and it\u2019s our responsibility to make sure they grow up feeling loved, safe, and respected. Growing up in care can be life-changing but it doesn\u2019t have to be a negative experience.\u201d<\/p>\n Niamh, from Paisley, added: \u201cWith the right care, young people can discover their strengths, achieve amazing things, and have the kind of childhood every child deserves \u2014 one filled with support and opportunities.<\/p>\n \u201cI want them to look back on their time here and think, \u2018they really believed in me\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n Before joining Kibble, Niamh, worked in a variety of roles that involved supporting people through trauma or vulnerable experiences \u2014 from adult mental health to children\u2019s residential care and even in decompression programmes which teach soldiers returning from Afghanistan how to ride horses.<\/p>\n At Kibble, those values now shape the daily lives of the young people she supports.<\/p>\n She has taken the lead in embedding The Promise \u2014Scotland\u2019s pledge to ensure care-experienced young people grow up loved, respected, and safe \u2014 into everyday practice.
