Cult streetwear brand Online Ceramics has teamed up with Penguin Random House for a capsule collection that celebrates the power of books. Titled Reading is a Right, the new collection champions expression and aims to support libraries at a time when they are under attack in the US.\u00a0<\/p>\n
More and more books are being added to the US\u2019s ongoing banned books list<\/a>, which currently includes Margaret Atwood\u2019s The Handmaid\u2019s Tale, Khaled Hosseini\u2019s The Kite Runner, Toni Morrison\u2019s The Bluest Eye and James Baldwin\u2019s If Beale Street Could Talk. Notably, the majority of books being targeted are either written by or about queer people and people of colour.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s easy to see why repressive governments often target literature, which has the power to disseminate new ideas, encourage critical thinking, and bolster readers\u2019 ability to empathise with people from all walks of life,\u201d wrote Dazed\u2019s deputy editor Serena Smith in February this year. Penguin Random House is one of the publishers currently suing states such as Idaho and Florida for their recent laws, whilst all proceeds from the new Online Ceramics collab will be donated to the nonprofit American Library Association. All educators and librarians will also get 20 per cent off.
