The Prince and Princess of Wales rode in a fire truck and watched trainee firefighters taking part in drills during a surprise visit to Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n

William and Kate are carrying out a series of engagements in Mid-Ulster today, beginning with a visit to the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service\u2019s new Learning and Development College in Cookstown, Co Tyrone<\/p>\n

It is their first joint visit here since October 2022.<\/p>\n

News Catch Up – Monday 13th October<\/p>\n

The Royal couple are spending the day visiting organisations that showcase growth and investment in rural areas and which demonstrate entrepreneurial and creative opportunities for young people.<\/p>\n

Several other engagements are planned later today.<\/p>\n

In Co Tyrone, they observed a training scenario during a visit to the fire service training college.<\/p>\n

They were shown around by Chief Fire Officer Aidan Jennings, walking past a replica village into a training warehouse where drills were taking place.<\/p>\n

The couple met two recent graduates of the 18-week training course.<\/p>\n

William and Kate then boarded the fire appliance to head to a flood water rescue simulator, where they watched as emergency workers simulated rescuing a casualty from a fast-flowing river.<\/p>\n

Their last major joint public event was a visit to Southport to show their ongoing support for the community following the fatal knife attack in July 2024.<\/p>\n

On their last visit here, William and Kate stopped off in Belfast three years ago and took part in a cocktail making race at a market and travelled to Carrickfergus.<\/p>\n
