The financial gift comes from the Reuben foundation, the charitable arm of the family of billionaire brothers and property moguls, David and Simon Reuben.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">The institute describes the donation as the beginning of a long-term partnership, which will see the foundation offer ongoing support for the development of displays and exhibitions through the sharing of works from the Reuben family\u2019s extensive collection of art.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Mark Hallett, the director of The Courtauld, says in a statement: \u201cThe partnership with the Reuben Foundation marks a defining moment in the Courtauld\u2019s history, ushering in a bold new chapter and launching us into our next century with even greater ambition and purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Formed in 2002, the Reuben Foundation is a UK charitable foundation which, according to a statement, is \u201cfocused on the advancement of healthcare, education and the community both in the UK and globally\u201d. In the past, the foundation has supported institutions including the British Museum and the National Gallery in London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">The Reuben family were ranked at number two in the most recent Sunday Times Rich List with a fortune of \u00a326.9bn. <a class=\"transition-colors duration-default shadow-externalLink hover:text-red-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/travel\/destinations\/uk-travel\/england\/london-travel\/reuben-brothers-will-pocket-1bn-b7pfhk95mjf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to The Times<\/a>, the Indian-born brothers made their first fortune in the Russian aluminium industry in the early 1990s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Today they control a London property empire and are converting the capital\u2019s historic Admiralty Arch into a luxury hotel. According to the Financial Times, the brothers were in talks earlier this year to <a class=\"transition-colors duration-default shadow-externalLink hover:text-red-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/b0fa8b10-6c10-4d68-8f28-613146061b3e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">invest<\/a> in a consortium seeking to take control of the subscription service Only Fans, best known for hosting adult content.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Lisa Reuben, a trustee of the Reuben Foundation and the daughter of Simon Reuben, says in a statement: \u201cWe\u00a0are thrilled\u00a0by the opportunity to build on The Courtauld\u2019s\u00a0remarkable\u00a0history and to support the realisation of its ambitious development.\u201d Other sponsors of The Courtauld Institute include the Ukrainian-born businessman Sir Leonard Blavatnik and Denise Coates, the founder of the Bet365 gambling empire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Over the last decade The Courtauld has raised \u00a3115m towards a major campaign around its centenary, and the refurbishment of its academic wing. Another \u00a365m is estimated to be needed to complete the latter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Students had to vacate the building at the end of 2018 to allow work to proceed and temporarily decamped to a building at Vernon Square, near King\u2019s Cross.
