No casualties were reported.<\/p>\n<p>The attacks in Kharkiv and Kherson \u2013 condemned, respectively, by Zelenskyy as a \u201cterrorist\u201d attack and by the UN as a violation of international law \u2013 come days before a scheduled meeting between Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump in Washington, DC, on Friday when the pair is expected to discuss the potential supply of long-range, precision-strike Tomahawk missiles to Kyiv to allow it to hit back at Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/10\/12\/zelenskyy-vows-to-only-use-tomahawks-against-russian-military-targets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has suggested<\/a> in recent days that he was considering providing Kyiv with Tomahawks, which would be the longest-range missiles in Ukraine\u2019s arsenal and could allow it to accurately strike targets deep inside Russia, including Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>Washington had previously ruled out supplying Ukraine with the cruise missiles, which the Kremlin has warned could have serious consequences and would entail direct US involvement in the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>Hospital attacked<\/p>\n<p>The overnight attacks on Kharkiv, Ukraine\u2019s second largest city, hit the city\u2019s main hospital, Zelenskyy said in a post on X.<\/p>\n<p>He described the strikes as an \u201cutterly terrorist, cynical attack on a place where lives are saved\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-arc-image-770 wp-image-4034967\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/AP25287328551320-1760450274.jpg\" alt=\"In this photo provided by the Ukrainian Emergency Services on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, a room of a hospital is seen damaged by a Russian strike in Kharkiv, Ukraine\" fetchpriority=\"low\"\/>A Russian attack caused injuries, evacuations and damage at a hospital in Kharkiv, Ukraine [Handout\/Ukrainian Emergency Service via AP]<\/p>\n<p>He said the main targets of the overnight raids across the country had once again been energy facilities and power facilities in the Kherson and Sumy regions were hit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery day, every night, Russia strikes power plants, power lines, and our [natural] gas facilities,\u201d Zelenskyy said on Telegram.<\/p>\n<p>For the past three years, Russia has started to target Ukraine\u2019s power grid before each winter in a campaign to demoralise the population by leaving millions without power in freezing conditions.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/10\/10\/russian-strikes-in-ukraine-leave-20-wounded-thousands-more-in-darkness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">escalating attacks<\/a> on Ukraine\u2019s energy facilities, which forced outages across the country on Monday in a bid to reduce pressure on the grid, Zelenskyy has called on Ukraine\u2019s allies to help blunt Russia\u2019s long-range attacks by providing more air defence systems.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/10\/13\/zelenskyy-to-meet-trump-in-dc-as-ukraine-seeks-defence-energy-support\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dispatched a senior delegation<\/a> to Washington to discuss boosting its defence and energy resilience, officials said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Attack on aid convoy<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in Kherson, the UN said its convoy of four vehicles, clearly marked with World Food Programme branding, came under attack from Russian drones and artillery while delivering aid.<\/p>\n<p>Two trucks were damaged in the strike although no one was injured, said the UN\u2019s humanitarian coordinator for Ukraine, Matthias Schmale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch attacks are utterly unacceptable.
