{"id":499616,"date":"2025-10-14T19:54:17","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T19:54:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/499616\/"},"modified":"2025-10-14T19:54:17","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T19:54:17","slug":"sam-querrey-says-if-he-thinks-jannik-sinner-has-any-chance-of-beating-carlos-alcaraz-to-the-year-end-number-one-ranking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/499616\/","title":{"rendered":"Sam Querrey says if he thinks Jannik Sinner has any chance of beating Carlos Alcaraz to the year-end number one ranking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>   <a class=\"fw\" href=\"https:\/\/profile.google.com\/cp\/Cg0vZy8xMXlnMTNoeXE4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"28\" height=\"28\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/wp-content\/themes\/grv-media\/img\/google-discover.svg\" alt=\"\"\/> Follow us on Google Discover <\/a>  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have played out a thrilling battle on the ATP Tour in 2025, and it isn\u2019t over yet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alcaraz<\/a> is currently number one in the world, closely followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner<\/a> in second, with both players having already qualified for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP<\/a> Finals.<\/p>\n<p>They have also dominated the Grand Slams in the 2025 season, with the duo combining to win each of the four titles, just as they did last year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/opinion\/the-atps-best-rivalry-other-than-carlos-alcaraz-vs-jannik-sinner-is-starting-to-emerge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alcaraz versus Sinner is the best rivalry<\/a> in men\u2019s tennis right now, and that theme could continue for some time.<\/p>\n<p>But it is the Spaniard who looks set to win that battle this year as he closes in on the year-end number one spot.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-2234192589-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner shake hands after the 2025 US Open final\" class=\"wp-image-128896\" \/>Photo by Matthew Stockman\/Getty ImagesSam Querrey says if he thinks Jannik Sinner can catch Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP rankings<\/p>\n<p>Sinner will need to win his remaining events and Alcaraz will need to suffer early exits if there is to be a dramatic change at this late stage of the season.<\/p>\n<p>And discussing whether or not that could happen, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/sam-querrey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sam Querrey<\/a> said on Tennis Channel: \u201c[Carlos] isn\u2019t going to go lose lose to end the year, right? I think Carlos is going to win some matches, maybe some tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut Sinner last year, remember how well he played at the end of the year? He could roll off three in a row late, but I think the lead from Carlos is just too much right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sam Querrey shares reaction to Jannik Sinner\u2019s cramps at the Shanghai Masters<\/p>\n<p>The Italian\u2019s quest for a late scare certainly wasn\u2019t helped at the Shanghai Masters, where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/what-jannik-sinners-team-are-expected-to-change-after-he-suffers-badly-with-cramp-in-shanghai-and-is-forced-to-withdraw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner retired hurt with cramps<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He had a fantastic chance to close the gap on the Spaniard given Alcaraz wasn\u2019t playing the ATP Masters 1000 event, but it wasn\u2019t meant to be amid the tricky conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/throwbacks\/the-classy-move-jannik-sinner-made-after-losing-for-the-very-first-time-on-the-atp-tour-back-in-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The classy move Jannik Sinner made after losing for the very first time on the ATP Tour back in 2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Analysing Sinner\u2019s cramps, Querrey said: \u201cVery rare, and tough to watch, anytime you see a guy cramp, but this kind of lasted for maybe eight to 10 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was trying to get through it, trying to see if the cramps would subside. They didn\u2019t.
