The United Kingdom has experienced a notable surge in
\ncyberattacks over the past year, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC)
\nreported on Tuesday, highlighting the growing vulnerability of the country\u2019s
\ndigital infrastructure.<\/p>\n
The report showed that the NCSC handled 429 incidents,
\nnearly half of which were classified as nationally significant. Among these, 18
\nwere deemed \u201chighly severe\u201d due to their direct impact on government
\noperations, essential services, infrastructure, the population, and the
\neconomy.<\/p>\n
Officials warned that digital systems could fail at any
\nmoment, urging organizations to activate emergency plans without delay. They
\nalso emphasized that increasing reliance on technology is amplifying both the
\nscale and consequences of cyber threats.<\/p>\n
Anne Keast-Butler, director of Government Communications
\nHeadquarters (GCHQ), underscored the importance of proactive risk management
\nand top-level leadership in cybersecurity, stating “Do not be an easy
\ntarget, make risk management part of your governance and lead the response from
\nthe top.”<\/p>\n
The report further identified China, Russia, Iran, and
\nNorth Korea as the primary sources of external threats, often using ransomware
\ncampaigns to extort money.<\/p>\n
