{"id":500215,"date":"2025-10-15T01:19:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T01:19:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/500215\/"},"modified":"2025-10-15T01:19:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T01:19:14","slug":"birmingham-city-council-to-settle-equal-pay-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/500215\/","title":{"rendered":"Birmingham City Council to settle equal pay claims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aiir-c-news-figure__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/68ee7fae2f8bd.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            Birmingham City Council has reached a landmark agreement to settle historic equal pay claims, ending a four year campaign led by the GMB union.\n        <\/p>\n<p>The agreement was brought on by the two unions on behalf of the women employed by the council and Birmingham Children\u2019s Trust.<\/p>\n<p>Women who deliver essential roles in\u00a0the city, such as teaching assistants, catering staff and care workers will receive significant sums they are \u2018owed and deserve\u2019, says trade union, UNISON.<\/p>\n<p>Leader of the city council, Cllr John Cotton described equal pay as the \u2018\u2018biggest challenge\u2019\u2019 he faced.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Cotton said: &#8220;When I was appointed as Leader two years ago, I labelled equal pay the single biggest challenge that the council has faced and vowed to deal with the matter once and for all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re doing exactly that and this deal represents another key milestone on our journey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to thank GMB and UNISON for working so constructively with the council to right a historic wrong.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Delcan Downes, GMB regional officer, described the announcement as a major victory for members.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cToday\u2019s historic announcement is a fantastic result for GMB members at Birmingham City Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have fought tirelessly for equal pay and for pay justice.
