Leaders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/eu-leaders-double-down-deregulation-drive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">are expected to urge<\/a> the bloc\u2019s executive to speed up efforts to slash red tape \u2014 a push the Danish minister said is vital to keeping Europe globally competitive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf our investors are met with the red carpet in the U.S. and by red tape in Europe, they will, at the end of the day, choose the U.S.,\u201d he stressed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For over a year, Brussels <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/ursula-von-der-leyen-eu-environmental-regulation-industry-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has been torching<\/a> swaths of environmental red tape in a bid to restore the competitiveness of Europe\u2019s beleaguered industries against their U.S. and Chinese rivals. Brussels now has nine simplification packages in the works, spanning the defense, environmental and digital sectors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The EU\u2019s rulebooks have drawn the ire of President Donald Trump, who has threatened to hike tariffs over rules he says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/us-question-report-sanction-eu-officials-dsa-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">discriminate against, and even censor<\/a>, U.S. companies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>France and Germany, the EU\u2019s two largest economies, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/merz-and-macron-call-for-easing-of-eu-pollution-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">are pushing Brussels<\/a> for a similar environmental deregulation drive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a bid to keep Washington onside, the European Commission is preparing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/eu-brussels-looks-to-spin-its-red-tape-cuts-as-gift-to-us-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plans to address Trump\u2019s grievances<\/a> \u2014 while presenting the effort as part of a self-driven policy overhaul.
