Hamzah Sheeraz<\/a> is not willing to sit around and wait for Canelo Alvarez<\/a> to get fit again following elbow surgery, according to promoter Frank Warren.
Sheeraz was ringside in Las Vegas last month as Canelo was beaten on points by Terence Crawford<\/a> at Allegiant Stadium.
The plan had been for undefeated Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs) to face Canelo in February<\/a> as long as the Mexican great made it through the fight unscathed.
However those plans were wrecked when it was confirmed that 35-year-old Canelo (63-3-2, 39 KOs) will go under the knife to address \u2018loose bodies\u2019 in his left elbow<\/a> which has reportedly been troubling him for some time. <\/p>\n

Now Sheeraz\u2019s promoter Frank Warren has confirmed that news of Canelo\u2019s surgery has changed the plan for Sheeraz as he insisted they will not simply wait around for a call.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what we will do now,\u201d Warren told The Ring<\/a>. \u201cLet\u2019s let Canelo have his op, let the dust settle and see where we are.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut Hamzah won\u2019t be sitting around on his backside.\u201d<\/p>\n

As reported by The Ring\u2019s Mike Coppinger, Canelo will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow in California on October 23. The former undisputed super-middleweight champion will then require some time in a sling and four to six weeks of rest before he can return to light training.<\/p>\n

This will preclude him from fighting in February as had been planned with a return in the second or even third quarter of 2026 now most likely.<\/p>\n

When asked if there is a chance that Sheeraz will now not fight Canelo at all given the delay, Warren added: “I hope not.”<\/p>\n

Sheeraz has not boxed since his July 12 victory over Edgar Berlanga<\/a> at Louis Armstrong Stadium, Queens, which boosted him to No. 8 in The Ring\u2019s super-middleweight rankings. He is currently No. 2 with the WBC and WBO while the WBA have him four and IBF have him six.
During an interview with The Ring in the aftermath of Crawford\u2019s historic victory over Canelo, Sheeraz welcomed a showdown with the Omaha icon<\/a> instead and labelled him the new king of boxing. <\/p>\n

\u201cI could still fight Canelo,\u201d Sheeraz said. \u201cBut I\u2019d just like a shot at the titles, no matter who has got them.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Crawford has them, if he stays at the weight, then I\u2019ll fight him. But if he vacates then I\u2019m mandatory with the WBC.
