Amid escalating trade tensions with China over its export restrictions on rare earth minerals, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said that Washington expects support from India and other allied nations.<\/p>\n

In an interview to Fox Business on Monday (October 13, 2025), Mr. Bessent said \u201cthis is China versus the world\u201d. \u201cThey have pointed a bazooka at the supply chains and the industrial base of the entire free world,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cChina is a command-and-control economy. They are neither going to command [nor] control us. We are going to assert our sovereignty in various ways,” he said.<\/p>\n

“We have already been in touch with the allies. We will be meeting with them this week and, you know, I expect that we will get substantial global support from the Europeans, from the Indians, from the democracies in Asia,\u201d Mr. Bessent added.<\/p>\n

The Treasury Secretary warned that the U.S. adversary is making \u201cprovocative\u201d moves.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States is pushing for peace in the world. China is financing war,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrying to get leverage in front of a meeting with Donald Trump is a bad idea,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr. Bessent said Mr. Trump is reportedly expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea in late October.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Mr. Trump sought to calm fears of an escalating trade war with Beijing after threatening to impose 100% tariffs in response to new Chinese restrictions on the export of rare earths that are crucial to advanced manufacturing and military technology.<\/p>\n

The U.S. has currently imposed 55% tariffs on Chinese goods.<\/p>\n

In a post on Truth Social, Mr. Trump said that China\u2019s economic troubles would \u201call be fine\u201d and insisted that the U.S. \u201cwants to help China, not hurt it\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t worry about China, it will all be fine!\u201d Mr. Trump wrote. \u201cHighly respected President Xi just had a bad moment. He doesn\u2019t want depression for his country, and neither do I. The USA wants to help China, not hurt it!!!\u201d \t <\/p>\n

Mr. Trump’s post came hours after China issued an official response to the U.S. President’s threat to impose a 100% tariff on Chinese imports by November 1.<\/p>\n

China controls about 70% of global rare earths mining and nearly 90% of processing capacity.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has imposed 25% reciprocal tariffs on India and an additional 25% levies for Delhi\u2019s purchases of Russian oil, bringing the total duties imposed on India to 50%, among the highest in the world.<\/p>\n

India has called the tariffs imposed by the U.S. \u201cunjustified and unreasonable\u201d. <\/p>\n
