\u2018O\u2019 Level weren\u2019t required for me to understand one phrase uttered by Germany left-back David Raum in the post-match mixed zone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u2018Kick and rush\u2019, those very words spoken in English, encapsulated a very German arrogance about the game that had finished just moments earlier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">When you\u2019ve won the game thanks a fluky goal from a corner kick, the ball flying in off your giant centre-forward\u2019s shoulder, then you\u2019re really in no position to stand up on a podium and pontificate about how the game should be played.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Woltemade&#x2019;s (centre right) goal made the difference on Monday night\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IW3W3GPMU5I2HFEPQECLJWXS5Y.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"533\"\/>Woltemade\u2019s (centre right) goal made the difference on Monday night (Liam McBurney\/PA) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">When your manager makes two more substitutions during the frankly farcically short two minutes of added time, and one of the players coming on wrestles with the opposition centre-forward, then you don\u2019t represent pure football.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/sport\/soccer\/ni-swan-ethan-galbraith-6NQ7PYTMUZGMPCHWPJYSJEIJ6A\/\" aria-hidden=\"true\" tabindex=\"-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img class=\"c-paragraph\">When you come from a nation of 84m people, taking on opponents drawing from around 2m \u2013 many of whom don\u2019t choose to play for your team, or prefer other sports \u2013 then you should show some humility after scraping a 1-0 win.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">When you have players from Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, and RB Leipzig, compared to opponents from Sunderland, Swansea, Southampton, Stevenage, and San Diego then you should wind your neck in.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Serge Gnabry title=\"\">When you only force the opposition goalkeeper into one save<\/a>, and only create one \u2018big chance\u2019, then perhaps don\u2019t pretend that you were playing \u2018beautiful football\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">When your manager whines about long balls in the first game, even though his team played plenty of them too, then doesn\u2019t even have the courage of his convictions and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/sport\/soccer\/julian-nagelsmann-sorry-if-his-northern-ireland-comments-seen-as-disrespectful-LSKZW7JDGFKC5A4BFCPNMVQPWU\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/sport\/soccer\/julian-nagelsmann-sorry-if-his-northern-ireland-comments-seen-as-disrespectful-LSKZW7JDGFKC5A4BFCPNMVQPWU\/\">backtracks on those comments when he comes to Belfast<\/a>, maybe you should have just said: \u2018We were lucky enough to win\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">To be fair to Raum, he had high praise for the atmosphere created by the home support.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">However, he offered no credit to a Northern Ireland team which played the ball out of defence on as high a percentage of occasions as the Photo by David Maginnis\/Pacemaker Press\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/TN43RIULYVA45H7VDA5FYX6V4I.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"488\"\/>Northern Ireland&#8217;s players form a huddle  before hosting Germany.<br \/>\nPhoto by David Maginnis\/Pacemaker Press (Photo by David Maginnis\/Pacemaker Press) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Of course Germany had more of the ball; they have better players.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">But as well as testing the German defence with longer deliveries the home team carved out shooting chances with neat passing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u2018Kick and rush\u2019 it was not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Even worse than being a sore loser \u2013 yeah, yeah\u2026 &#8211; is to be an ungracious winner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">None of this is to argue that Northern Ireland \u2018deserved\u2019 a draw.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">You have to take your chances in sport: the hosts only created half-chances at best and none of their efforts were good enough to beat German goalkeeper Oliver Baumann.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Yet they might have had another opportunity had there been fair play from the referee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">How can I put this politely about only two minutes being added at the end? It was utterly ridiculous and stank to high heaven.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Do you think for a second that, if the roles were reversed and Germany were losing at home, pushing hard for an equaliser, that only two minutes of added time would have been decreed?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Northern Ireland manager Micheal O&#x2019;Neill speaks to the referee after being defeated 1-0 by Germany during Monday night&#x2019;s FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Clearer Twist National Stadium at Windsor Park.\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/F4TJYSHLZRHLZJJEJOKUNCRYAI.JPG\"  width=\"800\" height=\"606\"\/>Northern Ireland manager Micheal O\u2019Neill speaks to the referee after being defeated 1-0 by Germany during Monday night\u2019s FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Clearer Twist National Stadium at Windsor Park.<br \/>\nPhoto William Cherry\/Presseye (William Cherry\/Presseye\/William Cherry\/Presseye) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Even if you do only allow 30 seconds per set of substitutions that adds up to 90 seconds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Is the referee really saying that were no more than 30 seconds of excessive stoppages during the rest of that second half?<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">All those substitutions themselves actually took more than two minutes in total \u2013 46 seconds for Maximilian Beier replacing Karim Adeyemi, 35 seconds for the double NI substitution with 15 minutes to go, and 49 seconds for the double Germany substitution late in normal time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">With two more German subs coming on in added time, the ref only allowed 36 seconds over the two added minutes for those changes, which were clearly designed by worried German boss Julian Nagelsmann to waste time \u2013 and the referee let him do it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">That figure of 36 seconds might sound fair enough, as again those two German subs were brought on at the same time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Yet from his whistle sounding at 90:20, it took more than a minute for Florian Wirtz and Nick Woltemade to make their way off the pitch and the ref to signal the re-start.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The final whistle did come at 93:10 \u2013 but the game had stopped at 92:36 when the ref raced in to book Magennis after his goalmouth tussle with Robert Andrich, who had just come on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Green and White Army put it well at the end when they serenaded the Germans with \u2018You\u2019re not very good\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A little humility would go a long way \u2013 further than this Germany team will go at the World Cup anyway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"12\/10\/2025  Dunloys A players celebrate with the Padraig Mc Namee Cup    in the    Championshup Final   at   Corrigan  Park  Picture  Seamus  Loughran\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/KT6WXJNY5BFOZLXI2A6EWOP2OM.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"454\"\/>Dunloy&#8217;ss footballers celebrate with the Padraig McNamee Cup, after dethroning champions Cargin.<br \/>\nPicture: Seamus Loughran (Picture: Seamus Loughran) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Dunloy camogie manager Gary O\u2019Kane didn\u2019t miss and hit the wall when he, quite rightly, slammed the Antrim camogie board for their scheduling of county senior camogie final on the same day as Antrim\u2019s senior football decider.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Speaking with all the directness he exhibited on the pitch, O\u2019Kane declared ahead of the clash against Loughgiel: \u201cWe would have played any other day at any other time.
