There\u2019s good news for fans of the 2018 BBC drama The Split, as a spin-off is on the way featuring a brand new story and new characters.<\/p>\n
This week, the BBC<\/a> announced that filming for the new six-part legal series, which was created by Ursula Rani Sarma, began in Manchester.<\/p>\n Unforgotten actor Sanjeev Bhaskar has been confirmed as one of the actors joining the cast, alongside Ritu Arya, as the duo will take on the roles of father and daughter lawyers, Aria and Dhruv Kishan.<\/p>\n The Split Up is set in the charged world of Manchester\u2019s high-net-worth divorce circuit, focusing on a powerhouse British South Asian family firm called Kishan Law.<\/p>\n Known as the go-to firm for the city\u2019s elite, fast-rising star Aria is poised and ready to take on the leading role from her father.<\/p>\n However, when tragedy unfolds, Dhruv begins to wonder whether or not his daughter can, or should, take on the responsibility single-handedly.<\/p>\n A synopsis for the show reads: \u201cAria\u2019s relationship is placed under scrutiny too, with the wedding for long-term partner Neal (Danny Ashok) on the horizon.<\/p>\n \u201cBut, with their personal and professional so entwine,d it\u2019s unclear if their relationship can withstand any more pressure – a problem further compounded when a former secret flame (Dimitri Leonidas) arrives in Manchester unexpectedly.<\/p>\n \u201cAlongside her siblings Maya (Aysha Kala) and Kav (Arian Nik), Aria must navigate the splits that divide family and those we love \u2013 and ask herself: who should you live your life for?”<\/p>\n BBC viewers will see Aysha Kala, Arian Nik, Danny Ashok, Dimitri Leonidas, Mawaan Rizwan, Sindhu Vee, Shalini Peiris, and Tom Forbes in the series.<\/p>\n A number of standout guest stars, including Lenny Henry and Jane Horrocks, are also set to appear in The Split Up.<\/p>\n Speaking about the upcoming drama, show creator Ursula Rani Sarma said: \u201cHaving admired The Split and Abi Morgan for years, I was honoured to be asked to bring The Split Up to life.<\/p>\n \u201cAs a writer passionate about representation, it\u2019s a dream come true to place a contemporary British South Asian family centre stage.
