{"id":501994,"date":"2025-10-15T17:13:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T17:13:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/501994\/"},"modified":"2025-10-15T17:13:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T17:13:14","slug":"why-fred-vasseur-knew-he-would-get-st-in-ferrari-f1-role","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/501994\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Fred Vasseur knew he would &#8216;get s**t&#8217; in Ferrari F1 role"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/tag\/ferrari\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrari<\/a> boss Fred Vasseur has revealed that he knew he would \u201cget s**t\u201d during his time with the team as he strives to reverse its fortunes in<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/series\/single-seater\/formula-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Formula 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Frenchman has not enjoyed the easiest of assignments by joining the Scuderia, with the team enduring the second-worst title drought in its history.<\/p>\n<p>There have been signs of progress since his arrival in 2023, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz maintaining a stability with race wins without serious title challenge.<\/p>\n<p>2024 saw a major milestone by finishing above Red Bull in the Constructors\u2019 Championship, narrowly missing out on to winners McLaren after the final race in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n<p>But 2025 has been a nightmare for the Maranello-based squad, with neither Leclerc nor new team-mate Lewis Hamilton managing to take a Grand Prix win to date.<\/p>\n<p>The pressure of being Ferrari boss always carries weight through its significance, something that was not lost on Vasseur when he took the job on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been in this business for 30 years,\u201d Vasseur told The Athletic. \u201cI knew perfectly that I will be exposed, I will get s**t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There have been signs of encouragement with McLaren recently suffering a dip in form, letting Ferrari and the likes of Mercedes and Red Bull back into the fight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are all oscillating up and down, but I would say that even when they are down, they are still there,\u201d Vasseur says of McLaren. \u201cAnd when they are up, they are flying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/XPB_1376763_HiRes-1024x576.webp.webp\" alt=\"Charles Leclerc\u2019s Ferrari SF-25 in action \u2014 a \u201cgood car, but not enough to win the title,\u201d says Nicolas Todt\" class=\"wp-image-225586\"  \/>Ferrari hasn\u2019t capitalised on McLaren\u2019s downturn in recent races<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Negative\u2019 2025 season has left Ferrari and Vasseur to focus on \u2018getting results\u2019<\/p>\n<p>McLaren was always seen as the favourites to take both titles this year, with Ferrari being a close second, but things have not transpired that way.<\/p>\n<p>The SF-25 has been a car that has not only not lived up to expectations, but has been fraught with anomalies that has emaciated all semblances of speed that it has.<\/p>\n<p>In China, Hamilton\u2019s Saturday win was the precursor for a difficult race which saw his car disqualified for excessive plank wear, diagnosing a long-term problem that rendered the car unable to be run on low ride-heights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you have a big issue at the beginning, you lose a little bit [of] the path, you have to be on the safe side, and you are losing a little bit\u2026 the confidence and everything,\u201d Vasseur reflected.<\/p>\n<p>It has left the car unable to score anything higher than second, with Leclerc taking five podiums and a pole position in Hungary, whereas Hamilton has struggled even more, cutting a miserable figure across much of the campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, this is mega negative for us,\u201d Vasseur admits of the team\u2019s form. \u201cI know that we have to work with pressure, and we have to deal with pressure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the DNA of our sport. But I think you have enough pressure on track to not get pressure at home. We know that we need to deliver.
