Alexis Mac Allister has made an honest admission about his form for Liverpool so far this season.<\/p>\n

Alexis Mac Allister has admitted he hasn’t been satisfied with the start of his season with Liverpool, but hopes a positive international break with Argentina can kickstart his campaign. The midfielder scored a first half brace for the reigning world champions as they thrashed Puerto Rico 6-0 in Miami on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old played the full 90 minutes in the international friendly, marking the first time he has completed a full 90 minutes since the Reds’ 1-0 victory over Leicester City back in April.<\/p>\n

The midfielder saw his previous season ended prematurely by injury. And while it had been hoped that he would return to fitness in time for the start of pre-season he, ultimately, did not forge a comeback until the end of July.<\/p>\n

Mac Allister<\/a> has been left playing catch up as a result, with Arne Slot<\/a> continuing to manage his minutes carefully.<\/p>\n

But the Argentine, who sat out the trip to Newcastle United in August through injury, hasn’t been at his best and looked short of fitness at times as Slot’s new-look Reds side continues to gel.<\/p>\n

The midfielder has made nine appearances so far this season, starting on six occasions in the Premier League<\/a>. But he has only lasted longer than the 65 minutes on two occasions – on the opening day of the campaign at home to AFC Bournemouth and in Liverpool<\/a>‘s last outing away at Chelsea.<\/p>\n

Mac Allister admits his season has not started in the best way. But he hopes to gain confidence from his latest showings for Argentina ahead of the Reds’ Premier League return at home to Manchester United on Sunday.<\/p>\n

“I like scoring goals, but I try to do my best for the team,” he told TYC Sports<\/a> after his brace against Puerto Rico. “I tried last time, but it didn’t work out.<\/p>\n

“Scoring goals helps; it gives you confidence. Especially at a time when, personally, the season hasn’t started in the best way. This helps to continue building confidence.”<\/p>\n

Mac Allister also took to social media following the victory as he looked ahead to Liverpool’s next run of fixtures, writing on Instagram: “End of a positive tour with two goals. It’s always a pleasure to spend a few days with the guys from Seleccion Argentina.<\/p>\n

“All focus now on Liverpool FC<\/a> and the team’s upcoming matches.”<\/p>\n

Mac Allister was not the only Liverpool midfielder on the scoresheet on Tuesday night, with Dominik Szoboszlai <\/a>also impressing for Hungary away at Portugal.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old returned a goal and an assist as his stoppage-time equaliser earned his nation a 2-2 draw.<\/p>\n

And speaking after the game, he teased that he put his own goal down to tiredness as Hungary went in search of a late equaliser.<\/p>\n

“I am proud of the whole team, how we fought and drove throughout the entire match,” he said. “We started well. Then there was a slight decline, but we didn’t go any further.<\/p>\n

“But we pulled ourselves together and managed to get out of it. I can only say positive things.<\/p>\n

“So, we are happy that we were able to get that one point from here.
