The Nasdaq Composite was back up 0.6%. The Dow was up 66 points, or 0.2%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"e141zjhk0 emotion-1cdur5g-FormattedText\">Even the Vix was paring its earlier spike and moving back toward breakeven.<\/p>\n<p class=\"e141zjhk0 emotion-1cdur5g-FormattedText\">Markets have been jolting up and down ever since the Trump administration raised the temperature in the U.S.\u2019s trade negotiations with China. Earnings season thus far has been solid, but some of the biggest names don\u2019t report until later this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"e141zjhk0 emotion-1cdur5g-FormattedText\">Frank Cappelleri, founder of technical analysis firm CappThesis, told Barron\u2019s that the market is still searching for direction after Friday\u2019s sharp decline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"e141zjhk0 emotion-1cdur5g-FormattedText\">\u201cThe rebound since then hasn\u2019t shown any meaningful follow-through from either side \u2014 aside from a few intraday swings,\u201d Cappelleri says. \u201cBears have been looking for an immediate breakdown, which hasn\u2019t materialized. This week\u2019s dip buyers\u2013who are used to being instantly rewarded with new highs\u2013haven\u2019t seen that payoff either.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"e141zjhk0 emotion-1cdur5g-FormattedText\">Cappelleri thinks patience is warranted for both bears and bulls, alike.<\/p>\n<p class=\"e141zjhk0 emotion-1cdur5g-FormattedText\">\u201cThere\u2019s no reason to jump in front of a move that hasn\u2019t developed yet,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s better to wait for the next decisive break and then follow the momentum.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The S&amp;P 500 was up 0.3% shortly before 2 p.m. ET after falling suddenly an hour earlier.
