A sports club just north of Bristol<\/a> is mourning the sudden death of its beloved chairman. Alistair Kilfoil, who had been chairman of Hambrook Sports Club for six years and a member of the club for over three decades, died last week aged 63.<\/p>\n

Club president John Gillingham remembered Alistair as someone who truly loved sport and who was a vital part of the fabric of the club.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was always willing to help whenever and wherever he was needed,\u201d Mr Gillingham said. \u201cHe did everything from getting behind the bar to supporting the functions of the club and fundraising.\u201d<\/p>\n

John said the club\u2019s AGM on Monday had been a sombre affair, dominated as it was by the news of the chairman\u2019s passing. He said he did not know what had caused Alistair\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

Cricket was Alistair\u2019s first love, and he was chairman of the Hambrook Cricket Club for many years before taking on the same role at the head of the sports club.<\/p>\n

A statement shared on behalf of the whole of the club celebrated Alistair as a kind and wise man, as well as one totally devoted to his club.<\/p>\n

“As Chairman, Alistair led with wisdom, kindness, and a selfless drive to ensure the continued success and spirit of the club for generations to come,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWe are so grateful for all the time and expertise he dedicated to our club.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hambrook Cricket Club was founded in 1878, with the Football Club following in 1927. The two officially combined to form Hambrook Sports Club in 1954, when land was purchased for the pavilion in December of that year, according to historical meeting minutes.<\/p>\n

Hambrook is a small village in South Gloucestershire<\/a> located south west of Winterbourne, near the junction between the M32 and M4.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore taking on the role of Chairman of Hambrook Sports Club, Alistair also served as Chairman of Hambrook Cricket Club,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cHis leadership there laid the foundations for the close-knit, thriving sporting community we are proud to be part of today.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether on the pitch, sidelines, in the pavilion, or behind the scenes, Alistair was always a steady and guiding presence \u2014 and his loss will be felt deeply by everyone who knew him.\u201d<\/p>\n

John remembered his old friend as a keen skier, and the possessor of a wickedly dry sense of humour.<\/p>\n

The club is organising a collection <\/a>in honour of Alistair\u2019s memory, along with a memorial event at the sports club on a date to be announced. Anyone with photos or recollections to share is encouraged to email the club via officialhambrooksportsclub@gmail.com.<\/p>\n
