{"id":502627,"date":"2025-10-15T22:52:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T22:52:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/502627\/"},"modified":"2025-10-15T22:52:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T22:52:12","slug":"make-tech-executives-liable-if-platforms-dont-protect-kids-say-eu-lawmakers-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/502627\/","title":{"rendered":"Make tech executives liable if platforms don\u2019t protect kids, say EU lawmakers \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It comes as the European Commission progresses investigations into Meta, TikTok and major porn platforms for potential breaches of its platform law, the <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.politico.eu\/bills\/609148\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Digital Services Act<\/a>, related to the protection of minors.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal is set to be voted on by the Parliament\u2019s internal market committee on Thursday, in a report setting out how to protect kids on the internet.<\/p>\n<p>The final draft of the report says the Commission should consider making tech company executives \u201cpersonally liable\u201d for any \u201cserious and persistent\u201d<strong> <\/strong>breaches of the DSA when it comes to minors.<\/p>\n<p>The suggestion was put forward by Hungarian conservative lawmaker D\u00f3ra D\u00e1vid, who is a former Meta employee. D\u00e1vid worked at the tech company as product counsel before she won a Parliament seat in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Danish socialist Christel Schaldemose, who is leading the report, said she expects the final version to pass but noted it&#8217;s hard to be certain. Those companies have to comply with stricter requirements on risk mitigation and transparency related to disinformation, illegal content and protection of minors.<\/p>\n<p>If companies are found to have breached the regulation they can be fined up to 6 percent of their annual global revenues.
