Despite growing interest from several top clubs, the 21-year-old is set to remain at Selhurst Park until at least next summer.

Wharton’s Rapid Rise and United’s Interest

Wharton has been one of the Premier League’s standout young midfielders since his breakthrough at Palace, playing with a calm authority that belies his age. His composure, passing range, and tactical intelligence have made him a key figure for the Eagles, culminating in his role in their remarkable FA Cup triumph over Manchester City at Wembley last May.

Manchester United, who are actively assessing their options with Casemiro’s contract expiring in June 2026, are believed to view Wharton as an ideal long-term successor. His performances have not gone unnoticed at Old Trafford, where recruitment chiefs have been tracking his progress for more than a year.

Wharton’s rise has also caught the attention of Europe’s elite, including Liverpool and Real Madrid, both reportedly considering future moves. Yet, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United’s ambitions of securing his signature this winter are highly unlikely to materialise.

Palace’s Stance on January Deal

Romano provided clarity on Wharton’s situation, stating that Palace are not prepared to entertain any offers in January. “For January, Palace have no intention to negotiate,” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “They want Adam Wharton to stay at the club and to be a really important part of the story.

“Then 2026 summer transfer window, maybe after the World Cup, we will see if Wharton will be there or not. He has chances. Palace will assess the situation with the player, also based on proposals.”

That firm position reflects Palace’s determination to continue their upward trajectory under Oliver Glasner, with Wharton central to their long-term project. His influence in midfield has been instrumental in giving Palace a stronger identity, and the club’s hierarchy see him as irreplaceable at this stage of their development.

Photo IMAGO
Growing Recognition Across Europe

Romano went on to underline just how highly regarded Wharton has become, not only at Manchester United but across the continent. “We have many links with Man United. I can confirm that Man United appreciate the player guys, but it’s not only Man Utd. Trust me, it’s several clubs appreciating this boy. He’s really appreciated. He’s considered one of the best talents in his position in England.

“And so, for sure, there is interest, Man United, and not only, but at the moment, nothing has been decided in terms of bid, numbers. If you see, 30, 40, 50 millions, nothing at this stage. Palace are very focused on this season with the player and the player is very focused on this season with Palace.”

Those comments suggest that while Wharton’s long-term future may lie away from Selhurst Park, any immediate move is off the table. The midfielder’s maturity and focus have been widely praised, and Palace officials are confident he will remain fully committed throughout the current campaign.

What United Must Decide Next

For United, the situation poses a familiar dilemma. They are under pressure to strengthen a midfield that has struggled for balance, with Casemiro’s form declining and Sofyan Amrabat’s future uncertain. Erik ten Hag’s side have shown flashes of improvement but remain inconsistent, and a figure of Wharton’s profile could help stabilise the team’s core.

However, with Palace unwilling to negotiate and Wharton fully focused on his current club, United may need to explore temporary solutions until the summer. A move next year, potentially after the 2026 World Cup, appears a more realistic prospect.

In the meantime, Wharton’s stock continues to rise. His assured displays for both club and country suggest he is destined for the very top, and it seems only a matter of time before a major transfer materialises. For now, though, Crystal Palace hold all the cards, and Manchester United will have to wait patiently for their chance.

Manchester United’s search for midfield reinforcements has turned once again towards Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton, but any…

[8813
9877,748,11493,1925,393,125202,36047,97,20110,1123,4884,164830,179,30567,2465,98,63462,36241,49601,101,544,24882,100,16,2739,15,114134
0":"post-502913","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-manchester","8":"tag-adam-wharton","9":"tag-britain","10":"tag-casemiro","11":"tag-crystal-palace","12":"tag-england","13":"tag-england-international","14":"tag-erik-ten-hag","15":"tag-fa-cup","16":"tag-fabrizio-romano","17":"tag-featured","18":"tag-great-britain","19":"tag-january-transfer","20":"tag-liverpool","21":"tag-man-united","22":"tag-manchester","23":"tag-manchester-united","24":"tag-midfielder","25":"tag-old-trafford","26":"tag-palace","27":"tag-premier-league","28":"tag-real-madrid","29":"tag-transfer","30":"tag-transfer-news","31":"tag-uk","32":"tag-united","33":"tag-united-kingdom","34":"tag-wharton
["GET
