Top of the list went to Osip in Somerset, which was lovingly described as &#8216;folksy without being arcane&#8217; and &#8216;basically the culinary equivalent of The Wicker Man&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">The top three was rounded up by Bokman, in Bristol, and Edinburgh&#8217;s Lyla. But it didn&#8217;t take too long for Manchester to get its first nod on the list, with fourth place going to Skof, on Federation Street in the NOMA district.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Led by Tom Barnes, the restaurant only opened its doors for the first time in May last year and has already been wowed with a number of plaudits. <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink-news\/manchester-restaurant-wins-michelin-star-30973037\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">It earned a Michelin star within months<\/a> of its debut, and was also recently recognised at the AA Hospitality Awards 2025 <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink-news\/manchester-restaurant-named-best-england-32526244\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">as the Restaurant of the Year for England.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Stay connected with our City Life newsletter <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=d1c9a1cf-d773-47a3-b51a-f456316221bc&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"hereLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_Inside-Skof-Manchester-1.jpg\" alt=\"Skof has won a number of awards since opening, including a Michelin Star\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Skof has won a number of awards since opening, including a Michelin Star<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">The first solo venue for chef Tom, who has previously worked at the likes of L&#8217;Enclume and Rogan &amp; Co, Skof serves up dishes with a focus on simplicity and modern British cooking by using quality and seasonal ingredients. Its menu features the likes of Confit Sladesdown Duck and steamed west coast cod.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Time Out praised the restaurant, which is tucked inside an old textile building, for its \u2018unflappable, genuinely friendly staff\u2019 with food writer Kelly Bishop also cheering on its \u2018impeccably sourced produce\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">A little further down the list, in eighth position, is Erst, based on Murray Street in Ancoats. The restaurant was hailed as &#8216;undoubtedly the urtext&#8217; of &#8216;uber-cool restaurants&#8217;, which is certainly not bad praise whatsoever.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Just narrowly missing out on a top ten position but coming in at a very respectable 11th place on Time Out\u2019s list was <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/stockport\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Stockport<\/a> favourites Where The Light Gets In which is led by chef and owner Sam Buckley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">The venue was praised for being &#8216;all about openness&#8217;, with its open-plan kitchen and dining space set-up. Hailed for its showcase of &#8216;the best ingredients\u2019, with a current sample menu teasing the likes of sorrel soup with a cultured potato dumpling, and a burnt honey tart.
