This was the moment a piece of Saddleworth’s<\/a> history was brought crashing to the ground following a crash.<\/p>\n

A silver Vauxhall Astra ploughed into an historic red telephone box in Dobcross <\/a>on Wednesday afternoon (October 15).<\/p>\n

The incident took place at the junction of Ladcastle Road and Dobcross New Road.<\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Police<\/a> says no one was hurt following the collision and no arrests have been made.<\/p>\n

The vehicle involved suffered ‘minor damage’, GMP says.<\/p>\n

But an image from the scene shows the phone box came off far worse.<\/p>\n

The UK’s red telephone boxes date back to the 1920s.<\/p>\n

Following British Telecom’s privatisation, the iconic structures were phased out for their boxier replacements in 1985, which became a feature on Britain’s streets throughout the 1990s and 2000s.<\/p>\n

Dobcross’ red telephone box has been home to a defibrillator since 2016, following a community campaign.<\/p>\n

GMP returned to Dobcross this morning (Thursday) following another crash nearby.<\/p>\n

The force says a vehicle overturned at around 10am and the driver, a 65-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
