Following the release of Andy Ackers<\/a>, Leeds Rhinos have released another forward with plenty of international experience.<\/strong><\/p>\n Ackers was granted an immediate release despite having a year left on his contract and the same has now happened for second row forward James Bentley, who was actually contracted until the end of the 2027 season.<\/p>\n The Irish international signed a contract extension back in April<\/a>, committing to the club until the end of the 2027 campaign, but just six months later and he\u2019s left Headingley.<\/p>\n News of Bentley\u2019s departure was confirmed by Leeds Rhinos who shared a brief statement to announce the 27-year-old\u2019s release.<\/p>\n That read: \u201cLeeds Rhinos have today released back row James Bentley from the remainder of his contract with immediate effect.<\/p>\n \u201cBentley joined the Rhinos in 2022 from St Helens and the 27-year-old had agreed an extension to his contract in April. However, due to a personal matter, both parties have agreed a release from the remainder of his contract to allow Bentley to look at other options for 2026 and beyond in his best interests.<\/p>\n \u201cLeeds Rhinos as a club will continue to offer James support.\u201d<\/p>\n James Bentley released by Leeds Rhinos<\/p>\n It now begs the question of where Bentley will resume his career with the Irish international having had a very strong 2025 season and recently being called up to the Ireland squad to take on Wales<\/a>.<\/p>\n It\u2019s a shock release given Bentley\u2019s form and age, as well as his recent contract extension.<\/p>\n He\u2019s not the first Leeds man to be released from his deal this week though with the Rhinos confirming the release of hooker Andy Ackers with the ex-Salford man subsequently signing for Bradford Bulls<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Bulls have now been confirmed as a Super League club for 2026<\/a> and Bentley, who started his career with Bradford, could well be a player that the Odsal club target.<\/p>\n Leeds Rhinos have today released back row James Bentley from the remainder of his contract with immediate effect. \u2014 Leeds Rhinos (@leedsrhinos) October 16, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n
