But since the arrival of trainee support dog Albert in late November, Sebby\u2019s family has seen significant improvements in being able to keep him safe, as the super-pooch is tethered to the youngster, preventing him from bolting off.<\/p>\n

And the yellow Labrador, who turns two next month, is also providing comfort to the Deans.<\/p>\n

Albert\u2019s amazing effect has inspired Sebby\u2019s auntie, Ruth Treharne (pictured below), to tackle this Sunday\u2019s London Marathon, in aid of national charity, Support Dogs<\/a>, which trained and provided Albert, alongside other specialist dogs, to help those affected by autism, epilepsy and physical disability.<\/p>\n

Ruth, 43, of Sleaford, said: \u201cI know Sebby is a bit of a wanderer and he likes to go and explore.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust having Albert tethered to him, and the safety of knowing he won\u2019t run into a road because Albert knows to stop at roads and where Sebby should go, is amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ruth, who is married to Mike and also mum to Owen, 12, and 15-year-old Rhys, added: \u201cIt\u2019s quite isolating, having a child who is non-verbal, so Albert has provided huge support for his parents, my brother Tom and sister-in-law Rachel.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd as with most disabilities, Sebby doesn\u2019t \u2018look\u2019 disabled, so when he\u2019s out and about, people may just assume he is a bit \u2018odd\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut he\u2019s got a support dog now and this illustrates a disability to people and the need to keep him safe while out and about.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve got a daughter too, so it\u2019s not just Sebby they\u2019ve got to keep their eyes on in big crowds, and it takes the stress away, knowing Albert has got his Support Dogs jacket on and is doing his job.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is Ruth\u2019s first London Marathon, though she has previously completed the York and Manchester marathons for other charities, with a completion time of four hours 12 minutes in Manchester, while she took part in the York event with Sebby\u2019s father.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt means so much to him that I\u2019m doing something for a charity that has helped them so much,\u201d said Ruth, an administrator who was a senior aircraftwoman in the Royal Air Force before having children.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve only had Albert since November and the things Support Dogs can teach these dogs, and the amount and range of people they can help, it\u2019s outstanding and heartwarming.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ruth admits she is \u201cabsolutely terrified\u201d at the prospect of Sunday\u2019s marathon, especially as she has picked up an injury and is spending this week resting, but she knows it\u2019s all for a fantastic cause.<\/p>\n

She has already raised more than \u00a31,900, with her employers, Sleaford-based Pumping & Drainage Systems, contributing to her total.<\/p>\n

Sebby\u2019s mum Rachel said: \u201cRuth and the whole family have been so supportive of Sebby and his needs and they all love Albert.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that Ruth wanted to do this for Support Dogs means so much to us.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so special, and running is a passion of hers and she\u2019s always wanted to do the London Marathon.<\/p>\n
