number plates banned by DVLA revealed &#8211; including &#8216;pro-Brexit&#8217; and &#8216;Nazi&#8217; registrations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE DVLA has banned hundreds of number plates it deems to be too offensive \u2014 including pro-Brexit ones such as EU75 OUT as well as AU75 WTZ.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the \u201c75\u201d reg launch on September 1, the agency released a list of 436 not allowed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Yellow license plate with &quot;EU75 OUT&quot; in black lettering.\" height=\"640\" width=\"960\" data-credit=\"\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/dk-25-04-number-plate_COMP.jpg\" data-caption=\"Pro-Brexit number plates such as EU75 OUT have been banned\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/dk-25-04-number-plate_COMP.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>1<\/p>\n<p>Pro-Brexit number plates such as EU75 OUT have been banned<\/p>\n<p>Motorists caught <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/driving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">driving<\/a> with them could be fined up to \u00a31,000 and given a failed MOT.<\/p>\n<p>To avoid provocative references to political issues such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/european-union\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU membership<\/a>, plates such as EU75 OUT, EU75 SHT, EU75 WAR and EU75 YES are barred.<\/p>\n<p>To avoid encouraging criminal behaviour, the combinations LE75 KLL (Let\u2019s kill), as well as MU75 DER (Murder) are also on the banned list.<\/p>\n<p>The plates AU75 WTS and AU75 WTZ are also outlawed as they could be seen as a reference to the Nazis\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/where\/auschwitz\/page\/2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Auschwitz concentration camp<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/sport\/football\/team\/1196712\/poland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Poland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also banned are the rude combinations BA75 TRD, BA75 SHT and SH75 TTY.<\/p>\n<p>Last September, private <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/number-plates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">number plates<\/a> seller RegTransfers also reported that 210 specific character combinations would be censored.<\/p>\n<p>Its chief executive Mark Trimbee said: \u201cThese bans ensure that number plates on the road aren\u2019t ones that could be translated into something inflammatory, offensive, insulting, obscene or otherwise problematic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThere are almost always some, however, that might take a bit of deciphering but the DVLA has to err on the side of caution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>People are just realising the hidden meaning behind the letters on car number plates<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"THE DVLA has banned hundreds of number plates it deems to be too offensive \u2014 including pro-Brexit ones&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":50521,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5226],"tags":[802,748,1224,2000,299,5187,1699,4884,297,2374,118,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-50520","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-brexit","8":"tag-brexit","9":"tag-britain","10":"tag-dvla","11":"tag-eu","12":"tag-europe","13":"tag-european","14":"tag-european-union","15":"tag-great-britain","16":"tag-road-laws","17":"tag-section-motorsnews-motors","18":"tag-the-sun-newspaper","19":"tag-uk","20":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/114400973726176728","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/50520","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=50520"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/50520\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/50521"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=50520"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=50520"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=50520"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
