{"id":505470,"date":"2025-10-17T00:26:18","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T00:26:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/505470\/"},"modified":"2025-10-17T00:26:18","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T00:26:18","slug":"greater-balance-and-fairness-in-stand-pricing-brings-diverse-galleries-to-frieze-london-the-art-newspaper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/505470\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Greater balance and fairness\u2019 in stand pricing brings diverse galleries to Frieze London &#8211; The Art Newspaper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Last year, Frieze London made a Robin Hood-style overhaul of its pricing structure.<strong class=\"font-text-medium font-medium\"> <\/strong>Where once there was a flat fee across the main section of the fair (\u00a3524 per sq. m in 2021), in 2024 tiers were introduced so that those who took the largest booths paid the most per square metre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Prices this year ranged from \u00a3658 per sq. m for an \u201cXXL\u201d stand, between 110 sq. m and 130 sq. m, down to \u00a3582 per sq. m for the smallest booths of between 30 sq. m and 50 sq. m. Prices at Frieze Masters remain the same across all sections and sizes, at \u00a3732 per sq. m (it was \u00a3631 per sq. m in 2021).<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">\u201cWe introduced the new pricing structure in 2024, alongside the new floorplan, and the idea was to encourage a more diverse range of galleries,\u201d says Frieze\u2019s executive director of fairs Kristell Chad\u00e9. \u201cIt was also a way of allowing galleries that had been in the Focus section to make the step up into the main section, which we know can be challenging financially, so lowering the cost of our smaller booths was a way of doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">The fee for Frieze London\u2019s subsidised Focus section for young galleries reduced from \u00a3338 per sq. m in 2021 to \u00a3276 per sq. m in 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">This year, three galleries that were in Focus have joined the main section for the first time\u2014London\u2019s Soft Opening, Livia Benavides from Lima and PM8 \/ Francisco Salas from Vigo in northern Spain. \u201cIt\u2019s important for us to support those galleries and find a way for them to sustainably continue to participate in the fair,\u201d Chad\u00e9 says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">\u201cMoving from the Focus section into the main Galleries section this year feels like a significant but natural milestone for us,\u201d says Antonia Marsh, the founder of Soft Opening. \u201cIt\u2019s a substantial investment, but one we\u2019ve been building towards for some time. We\u2019re grateful to Frieze for their support in offering us a smaller booth in such a prominent position at the front of the fair, which makes this transition feel both sustainable and symbolic of the gallery\u2019s growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Since 2023, the fashion brand Stone Island has given a bursary to Focus galleries, further reducing their stand costs, and as of this year, the jewellery brand Tiffany &amp; Co. does the same for galleries in the Artist-to-Artist section. \u201cEach gallery receives the same amount,\u201d a Frieze spokesperson says, though they declined to disclose the amount.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">Pricing across the Focus section has adjusted slightly this year, however. While a 30 sq. m stand is now \u00a38,280 (down from \u00a39,390 in 2024), the prices for Focus Solo 25 (a solo artist in a 25 sq. m stand) and Dual 25 (two artists in a 25 sq. m stand) have risen, from \u00a35,900 in 2024 to \u00a36,750 in 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">\u201cWhile some stands will see a modest increase\u2014for example, a 25 sq. m stand rising by \u00a3850\u2014others will benefit from a reduction, such as a 30 sq. m stand decreasing by \u00a31,110, ensuring greater balance and fairness across the section as a whole,\u201d the Frieze spokesperson says.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Last year, Frieze London made a Robin Hood-style overhaul of its pricing structure.
