{"id":50608,"date":"2025-04-25T23:14:09","date_gmt":"2025-04-25T23:14:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/50608\/"},"modified":"2025-04-25T23:14:09","modified_gmt":"2025-04-25T23:14:09","slug":"dwp-announces-pip-cuts-wont-apply-to-claimants-in-one-age-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/50608\/","title":{"rendered":"DWP announces PIP cuts won&#8217;t apply to claimants in one age group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You might be able to make a new claim if you had a PIP award that stopped in the last year or you\u2019re getting Disability Living Allowance (DLA)<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_disabled.jpg\" alt=\"DWP announces PIP cuts won't apply to claimants in one age group\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>DWP announces PIP cuts won&#8217;t apply to claimants in one age group<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Department for Work and Pensions says Personal Independence Payment (PIP) disability and incapacity benefit cuts WON&#8217;T apply to those who have reached state pension age &#8211; in a massive boost for older people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Paula Barker, Labour for Liverpool Wavertree, reached out in the Commons &#8220;to ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what assessment her Department has made of the potential impact of the proposed reforms to Personal Independence Payment on people above over state pension age.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Sir Stephen Timms replied: &#8220;Our intention is that the new eligibility requirement in Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in which people must score a minimum of four points in one daily living activity to be eligible for the daily living component, will apply to new claims and award reviews from November 2026, subject to parliamentary approval. In keeping with existing policy, people of State Pension Age are not routinely fully reviewed and will not be affected by the proposed changes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/uk-faces-five-day-mini-31506320\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">READ MORE UK faces &#8216;five day&#8217; mini-heatwave next week as BBC Weather issues warning<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Information on the impacts of the Pathways to Work Green Paper will be published in due course, and some information was published alongside the Spring Statement. These publications can be found in \u2018Pathways to Work: Reforming Benefits and Support to Get Britain Working Green Paper\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;A further programme of analysis to support development of the proposals in the Green Paper will be developed and undertaken in the coming months.&#8221; Most people can\u2019t make a new claim for PIP after they reach State Pension age.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You might be able to make a new claim if you had a PIP award that stopped in the last year or you\u2019re getting Disability Living Allowance (DLA) &#8211; or it stopped in the last year. You can\u2019t claim PIP if you were born before 9 April 1948.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you can\u2019t claim PIP, you might be able to get Attendance Allowance instead. If you claim PIP after State Pension age, there are extra rules about the \u2018mobility component\u2019. The mobility component is for the extra help you need getting around.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you claim PIP after State Pension age, the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/dwp\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">DWP<\/a> will usually give you an \u2018indefinite award\u2019. This means there\u2019s no end date.
