{"id":506214,"date":"2025-10-17T07:12:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T07:12:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/506214\/"},"modified":"2025-10-17T07:12:15","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T07:12:15","slug":"australia-batter-who-made-international-debut-in-india-reveals-cancer-battle-at-33-spread-into-other-parts-of-my-body-that-was-scary-cricket-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/506214\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia batter who made international debut in India reveals cancer battle at 33: \u2018Spread into other parts of my body, that was scary\u2019 | Cricket News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After spending seven months away from competitive cricket action, Australia batter Nic Maddinson recently revealed his battle with testicular cancer as he aims to charter his return to the field soon.<\/p>\n<p>The 33-year-old Maddinson, who made his international debut 12 years ago in a T20I against India and played his last in national colours in a Test nine years ago, described the chemotherapy process starting mid-May as the \u201clongest nine weeks\u201d of his life. <\/p>\n<p><img class=\"lazyloading\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"lazyloading-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/track_1x1.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/track_1x1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1px\" height=\"1px\" style=\"display:none;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Maddinson has been out of action since being dropped from the New South Wales side in March. He had since undergone surgery to remove a tumour before receiving more grim news that the <a rel=\"noamphtml noopener\" class=\"keywordtourl\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/about\/cancer\/\" target=\"_blank\">cancer<\/a> had spread. <\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Losing hair, feeling average\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce I found out I had to have chemo, that was pretty hard to deal with,\u201d he told Nine newspapers. \u201cIt had spread to parts of my abdominal lymph nodes and lung. That was a bit where it was pretty daunting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maddinson was also expecting his second child with his wife, Bianca, around the same time, with their second child, Wilder, who arrived recently. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy the second or third week, I lost all my hair,\u201d he said. \u201cI was feeling pretty average. I was taking types of steroids to manage side effects, but they would keep me up at night \u2026 I\u2019d sleep until about 1am, but sometimes I\u2019d then be awake until 6 am. I found that difficult.
