Around 42,000 workers have been repaid by their employers, including well-known high street brands, with employers receiving fines totalling \u00a310.2 million for breaking the rules.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u00a36 million has been put back into the pockets of working people as Government delivers the biggest overhaul of workers\u2019 rights in a generation, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/your-money\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">as part of its Plan for Change<\/a>. Enforcement of workers\u2019 rights is set to be increased through new Fair Work Agency which will shield workers from employers who break the law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Business Secretary Peter Kyle said: \u201cEvery worker deserves a fair day\u2019s pay for a fair day\u2019s work, and this government will not tolerate rogue employers who short-change their staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cI know that no employer wants to end up on one of these lists. But our Plan to Make Work Pay cracks down on those not playing by the rules.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cThis ensures a level playing field where all businesses pay what they owe whilst workers receive the boost to their living standards they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">This action comes as the Government introduces the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/your-money\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">biggest upgrade to workers\u2019 rights <\/a>and enforcement for a generation through its Plan to Make Work Pay. The plan is set to benefit half of UK workers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Further information on Gov.uk says that from April 2026 the Employment Rights Bill will also establish a new Fair Work Agency with more powers to tackle employers underpaying workers and failing to pay holiday and sick pay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">If workers suspect they are being underpaid, they can visit gov.uk\/checkyourpay to find out more about what they can do. The minimum wage law applies to all parts of the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">The National Living and Minimum Wage rate for those 21 and over in 2024 was \u00a311.44 and in 2025 is \u00a312.21. People aged 18 to 20, it is \u00a38.60 and \u00a310. Anyone aged under 18 it was \u00a36.40 and is now \u00a37.55, for those doing an apprentice the 2024 rate was \u00a36.40 and is now \u00a37.55.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Merseyside companies fined:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\" \u00a32,227.11 to 1 worker<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"unordered-list\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Mr William Knox, Liverpool, L13, failed to pay \u00a3758.16 to 7 workers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul
