A Birmingham High Street once beset by beggars, stabbings and theft, is to get a dedicated police team.<\/p>\n

A squad of six constables will be tackling issues raised by shoppers, traders and residents and providing high visibility presence in the centre of Erdington<\/a>.<\/p>\n

West Midland’s Police launched an intense crackdown on violence in the area and arrested more than 140 people as part of Operation Fearless<\/a> back January.<\/p>\n

The new team, which is led by Sgt Gary Grove, will build on the operation’s success in reducing crime and has already made 17 further arrests since starting on April 4.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Fearless will be moving into another part of the city in the coming weeks \u2013 with the exact location being announced shortly.<\/p>\n

Detective Superintendent Jim Munro, leading Operation Fearless said: “The results we\u2019ve seen in Erdington speak for themselves \u2013 not just in terms of arrests and charges, but in the look and feel of the area around the High Street.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re delighted that our work has been met with such positive feedback, and grateful to the Erdington community for their invaluable support and information.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new dedicated High Street team will be a constant presence in the area, and although Fearless is expanding to a new location \u2013 our Fearless officers will be using their impressive local and operational knowledge to support them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sergeant Gary Grove, from the High Street team, added: “It\u2019s clear to see the difference Fearless has made to Erdington, and we\u2019re committed to building on that.<\/p>\n

\u201cMyself and my colleagues have experience working as part of the Erdington Impact Area team \u2013 and we\u2019re working hard to build on existing relationships around the area.<\/p>\n
