Charles has now reportedly set out to rectify the issue, which involves royal livery &#8220;for the Royal Mews wardrobes&#8221;, but it seems he&#8217;s been &#8220;lumbered&#8221; with an unforeseen issue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">Located at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/buckingham-palace\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Buckingham Palace<\/a>, the 200-year-old Royal Mews handles the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/king-charles-iii\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">King <\/a>and other royals&#8217; transport arrangements when they travel by road, covering everything from horse-and-carriages to cars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">Priding itself as the home of &#8220;one of the finest working stables in existence&#8221;, the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/royals\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Royal Mews <\/a>is also responsible for the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/world-news\/trump-insists-queens-golden-carriage-10234553\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">iconic Gold State Coach<\/a>, and, of course, the eye-catching livery (which refers to the staff uniforms).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">Yet, according to the Mail&#8217;s Ephraim Hardcastle, Queen Elizabeth reportedly &#8220;refused&#8221; to buy new scarlet and gold livery worn at state events.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2_Footmen-In-Royal-Mews.jpg\" alt=\"Footmen In Royal Mews\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Royal Mews is in charge of the royals&#8217; transport arrangements when they travel by road(Image: Getty)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">Indeed, he claims that while Her Majesty was on the throne, they simply found staff who fitted the existing livery, so many of these uniforms have been around since the days of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/queen-victoria\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Queen Victoria<\/a> (who died in 1901).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">Ephraim writes: &#8220;The late Queen, ever frugal, refused to buy new scarlet and gold livery worn on state occasions. Instead staff, mainly from the Royal Mews, had to be found who fitted the existing outfits, most of which go back to Queen Victoria&#8217;s day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">&#8220;Now the King has reversed the policy. New scarlet and gold outfits have finally been commissioned for the Royal Mews wardrobes.
