Wayne Rooney<\/a> has recalled how he swapped his football boots for a pair of stilettos to dress up as Freddie Mercury at his early 40th birthday bash.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The footballer, who celebrates the milestone next week, was surprised by wife Coleen with a lavish weekend away with pals to the Cotswolds.<\/p>\n

One evening featured a fancy dress party, which saw Wayne don the Queen frontman’s iconic outfit including heels and a leather skirt from the band’s 1984 video for\u00a0I Want to Break Free.<\/p>\n

However while he mastered the towering footwear and mimicked Freddie as he danced around with a vacuum before taking to the karaoke, in an ironic twist of fate fashionista Coleen tripped from her own heels and broke her foot.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast The Wayne Rooney Show<\/a> he said: ”It was great, one night was fancy dress. I was Freddie Mercury<\/a>. I wore high heels, a black leather skirt, skintight t-shirt tucked in, and a hoover’.<\/p>\n

‘So I was walking round with a hoover but my feet were intact. Colleen actually slipped in her heels and broke her foot’.<\/p>\n

Wayne continued: ‘It was great [weekend]. And we had different bands coming out, singing and performing and stuff. And I got up obviously, it was good fun’.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘I obviously done Bohemian Rhapsody. Me And My Monkey by\u00a0Robbie Williams<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 that’s my go-to song’.<\/p>\n

It comes after Wayne and Coleen looked happier than ever as they got their glad rags on for a date night\u00a0after the footballer revealed his long-suffering wife had saved him from alcoholism.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Coleen shared a sweet picture posing alongside her retired football manager husband, 39,<\/a> to Instagram on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The WAG showcased her midriff in a maroon, figure-hugging lace co-ord, which featured a long-sleeved crop top and an ankle-length skirt.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Adding inches to her frame, she slipped into a pair of black heels and accessorised with chunky gold earrings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Wayne, who turns 40 next week, stood proudly alongside his wife of 17 years, wearing a crisp white shirt layered under a grey blazer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Alongside her post, Coleen wrote: ‘My skin in glowing this weekend after my monthly treatment at @careoftheskin… Consistency is key’.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Coleen previously broke her foot in 2022 and sported a cast on her leg during the Wagatha Christie trial\u00a0<\/p>\n

Coleen’s post comes after Wayne insisted he would be dead if it wasn’t for his wife, who he says ‘saved’ him from<\/a>\u00a0alcoholism.<\/p>\n

The former footballer opened up on just how bad his struggles became in a interview on former Manchester United teammate\u00a0Rio Ferdinand<\/a>‘s podcast.<\/a><\/p>\n

In his early years, Wayne said all he wanted to do was go out and ‘enjoy my time with friends’, however, he said it got to a point ‘where I went too far’, which left him ‘struggling massively’.<\/p>\n

He admitted: ‘I didn’t think I could turn to anyone. I didn’t really want to because I didn’t want to put that burden on anyone.’<\/p>\n

Wayne recalled one incident where he ‘drank for two days straight’ before turning up for football training.<\/p>\n

In a bid to conceal his problem from the rest of his team and manager, Wayne would use eye drops, chewing gum and aftershave to mask his two-day binge.<\/p>\n

However, he explained: ‘Come training and at the weekend I’d scored two goals and then I’d go back and go and drink for two days straight again.’<\/p>\n

In an emotional admission, Wayne praised his wife and mother of his four children Coleen, revealing: <\/a>‘<\/a>I honestly believe if she weren’t there I’d be dead.’<\/p>\n

He gushed: ‘Coleen is massive. It’s bad because we’re two kids from Croxteth and then we grew up together and obviously we started dating and we got married and have kids.<\/p>\n

‘But when I was 17 she could see, she knew my mind and she knew I was a bit out there. You know, I loved my football, obsessed with football but also I loved a night out or whatever going out.<\/p>\n

‘She’s seen it very early on and she’s controlled that. Well, not controlled but helped me control that massively.<\/p>\n

‘And at times you’re like, ‘What are you doing? Why do you keep saying don’t do this or don’t do that?’<\/p>\n
