Neither is in particularly good form, though. Their three Premier League wins have come against the newly promoted sides Burnley and Sunderland, and Chelsea, who played with ten men from the fifth minute.

One would expect them to struggle against the Premier League champions, then, but the case may not be as cut-and-dry as it appears. With Liverpool reeling having gone winless in three, now is the time for United to strike while the iron is hot.

Whether they can grab the opportunity is another question entirely. Slot has had a fortnight to tinker and will expect his Reds to get back to form after their recent wobbles.

Point to prove: Arne Slot must arrest a poor run of form

Getty Images

Head to head (h2h) history and results

Sunday’s outing will be the hundredth time these sides have met at Anfield, where United have not won since Wayne Rooney struck late to deliver a 1-0 win in January 2016.

Manchester United wins: 80

Liverpool vs Manchester United match odds

Manchester United to win: 7/2

Odds via Betfair (subject to change).

Arne Slot has now lost three on the spin at the hands of Crystal Palace, Galatasaray, and Chelsea…

[8815
1121,748,1614,393,4884,179,99,16,15
0":"post-507466","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-liverpool","8":"tag-arne-slot","9":"tag-britain","10":"tag-champions-league","11":"tag-england","12":"tag-great-britain","13":"tag-liverpool","14":"tag-ruben-amorim","15":"tag-uk","16":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
